Build real-time support RAG with an MCP Server

`search_kb` queries your active knowledge base over an MCP connection to fetch relevant articles whenever a user asks a technical support question in LlamaIndex. Instead of relying on static, outdated PDFs, your agent retrieves the latest live content directly. This tool feeds raw text directly into the LlamaIndex response synthesizer. Your agent grounds its answers in actual, published documentation, which completely eliminates hallucinated setup steps or outdated product specs.

Index search trends to guide content creation

`get_search_trends` pulls real-time search analytics to help LlamaIndex identify critical gaps in your documentation index. The framework compares these trending search terms against your existing vector store embeddings. When the agent detects a high-volume search term with no matching vector embeddings, it triggers `create_article`. This creates a targeted draft to address the missing information before support tickets spike.

Auto-correct poorly rated articles in LlamaIndex

`get_article_stats` retrieves performance metrics, allowing your LlamaIndex pipeline to identify articles with high downvote ratios. The agent pulls these flagged documents for a deep semantic audit. By analyzing the article text alongside successful support tickets, the agent drafts revisions. It then executes `update_article` to publish the corrected steps, raising self-service resolution rates.

Setup guide

Set up Helpjuice MCP in LlamaIndex

Prerequisites

  • Python 3.10+ installed
  • llama-index-tools-mcp package
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
  1. 1

    Install dependencies

    Run pip install llama-index-tools-mcp llama-index-llms-openai. The MCP tools package provides BasicMCPClient and McpToolSpec.

  2. 2

    Connect with BasicMCPClient

    Point BasicMCPClient to your Vinkius endpoint URL. Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your token from cloud.vinkius.com. Supports SSE and Streamable HTTP transports.

  3. 3

    Convert to LlamaIndex tools

    Call mcp_tool_spec.to_tool_list_async() to convert all Helpjuice MCP tools into native FunctionTool objects that any LlamaIndex agent can use.

  4. 4

    Run with any LLM

    Create a FunctionAgent with the tools and your preferred LLM. Swap OpenAI for Anthropic, Gemini, or any LlamaIndex-supported provider.

agent.py
from llama_index.tools.mcp import BasicMCPClient, McpToolSpec
from llama_index.core.agent.workflow import FunctionAgent
from llama_index.llms.openai import OpenAI

# Connect to the MCP
mcp_client = BasicMCPClient(
    "https://edge.vinkius.com/[YOUR_TOKEN_HERE]/mcp"
)
mcp_tool_spec = McpToolSpec(client=mcp_client)

# Convert MCP tools to LlamaIndex tools
tools = await mcp_tool_spec.to_tool_list_async()

# Create and run the agent
agent = FunctionAgent(
    tools=tools,
    llm=OpenAI(model="gpt-4o"),
    system_prompt="You have access to Helpjuice tools.",
)
response = await agent.run("List recent Helpjuice data")

Common questions about Helpjuice MCP in LlamaIndex

Use `list_articles` to fetch the document IDs, then load the full text of each page with `get_article_details`. You can then convert these documents into LlamaIndex Node objects and ingest them directly into your vector index.
Yes, you can expose `update_article` to a LlamaIndex FunctionAgent. The agent evaluates user feedback or document accuracy, drafts the revised markdown, and executes the tool to update the live article.
The agent uses `search_kb` as a query engine tool. When a user asks a question, LlamaIndex routes the query to the Helpjuice search API, retrieving the most relevant articles based on Helpjuice's native search ranking.
Yes, you can call `list_categories` to map your knowledge base structure. From there, you can configure your LlamaIndex agent to only query or modify specific category IDs, keeping sensitive internal docs isolated.
Yes, your credentials are encrypted at rest and injected only during runtime within the secure Vinkius sandbox. The server runs as an isolated MCP instance, processing your article text and search metrics locally, never passing through third-party intermediate APIs.
