Enable agent debates on music

Set up multiple agents to discuss your listening patterns using data from `get_top_artists`. One agent can analyze the trends while another challenges the interpretation. This lets you dig deeper into your habits. You aren't just getting a raw list; you're getting a consensus-driven perspective on what you actually listen to.

Negotiate data with AutoGen

Use `get_user_info` to provide a baseline for your agents. If the performance agent flags a slow query, the debate agent can propose using a more specific tool like `get_top_tags` instead. This creates a resilient system that self-corrects. The agents negotiate which tool provides the best data for the current discussion without your constant input.

Automated music profile analysis

Pass the tool list to your AssistantAgent and let it decide when to pull `get_track_info`. The agents will decide the order of operations based on the task complexity. It turns the MCP Server into a collaborative partner. Your agents handle the back-and-forth, ensuring they have the right data to form a solid conclusion about your library.

Setup guide

Set up Last.fm MCP in AutoGen

Prerequisites

  • Python 3.10+ installed
  • autogen-ext[mcp] package
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
  1. 1

    Install AutoGen with MCP

    Run pip install "autogen-ext[mcp]" autogen-agentchat. The MCP extension includes mcp_server_tools for stateless tool access.

  2. 2

    Fetch tools from the MCP

    Call mcp_server_tools(SseServerParams(url=...)) with your Vinkius endpoint. Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your token from cloud.vinkius.com.

  3. 3

    Run your agent

    Pass the tools to AssistantAgent and call agent.run(). The agent invokes Last.fm tools and returns structured results.

agent.py
from autogen_ext.tools.mcp import SseServerParams, mcp_server_tools
from autogen_agentchat.agents import AssistantAgent
from autogen_ext.models.openai import OpenAIChatCompletionClient

server_params = SseServerParams(
    url="https://edge.vinkius.com/[YOUR_TOKEN_HERE]/mcp"
)

tools = await mcp_server_tools(server_params)

agent = AssistantAgent(
    name="Last.fm_assistant",
    model_client=OpenAIChatCompletionClient(model="gpt-4o"),
    tools=tools,
)

result = await agent.run("List recent Last.fm data")
print(result.messages[-1].content)

Common questions about Last.fm MCP in AutoGen

Use the autogen-ext package to register the server. Once the adapter converts the tools, you just pass the list to your AssistantAgent constructor.
They can. As they discuss the results of a tool call, the data is passed between agents so they can build upon each other's findings.
Your privacy is maintained because the server only accesses public profile information. The data is transferred within the ephemeral Vinkius environment during your session.
No. The McpToolAdapter handles the schema conversion for you. The agents will call the tools automatically when they need more information.
Your connection uses a single endpoint token for authentication. This ensures your Last.fm data stays protected while your agents deliberate.
