Direct Node-RED flow orchestration

Stop jumping between your browser and terminal. You can use `add_flow` to push new logic or `update_flow` to tweak existing tabs directly through your agent. It handles the JSON payload for you. If you need to wipe a configuration clean, `set_flows` makes that state change instant.

Real-time Node-RED system monitoring

Keep an eye on your runtime health without manual checks. The `get_diagnostics` tool pulls current memory usage and system status straight into your chat. If a service feels sluggish, use `get_nodes` to audit your palette. You’ll see exactly what’s installed and identify if you need to run `install_node` for a missing dependency.

Full Node-RED runtime control in Claude Desktop

Every configuration setting is accessible through your chat interface. Use `get_settings` to verify your environment variables before you make any changes to your production logic. Need to clean up your workspace? Use `remove_node` to prune unused modules. It keeps your Node-RED environment lean and prevents dependency bloat.

Common questions about Node-RED MCP in Claude Desktop

Add the server configuration to your claude_desktop_config.json file. Once you save and restart the app, the MCP tools will appear in your chat interface.
Yes. You can define multiple server endpoints within your configuration file. Just point each entry to the specific instance you need to control.
Your data remains local to your machine. The MCP connection only exposes the specific tools you authorize, keeping your flow logic behind your own firewall.
It provides access to current flow states through `get_flows`. You should maintain your own git repository for versioning your JSON exports.
The server accesses your flow definitions, node configurations, and runtime diagnostic metrics. It does not touch your underlying OS files unless you explicitly trigger a node installation.
