Autonomous Task Management with MCP Server

The `complete_task` tool marks a task as finished. For CrewAI, this means you can assign an Action Agent whose sole job is to monitor tasks and automatically call this function when criteria are met. A second agent can then use `list_active_tasks` to verify the change, creating a seamless, automated project completion cycle.

Multi-Agent Project Monitoring

To monitor progress, one Agent researches using `list_comments` while another checks `get_task_details`. This simulates two specialized roles working together on a single item. The CrewAI framework handles this collaboration by sharing memory. The researcher's findings immediately inform the action agent's next step.

End-to-End Project Setup

You can build an entire operation flow: Agent A calls `create_project`, Agent B uses `create_task` within that project, and Agent C then monitors the result using `list_project_sections`. This sequential or hierarchical execution means you don't need a human to prompt each step; the crew manages itself.

Setup guide

Set up Todoist MCP in CrewAI

Prerequisites

  • Python 3.10+ installed
  • crewai package (pip install crewai)
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
  1. 1

    Install CrewAI

    Run pip install crewai to install the framework. MCP support is built-in via the mcps parameter.

  2. 2

    Add the MCP URL to your agent

    Pass your Vinkius endpoint directly to the mcps list. Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your token from cloud.vinkius.com. CrewAI handles tool discovery and caching automatically.

  3. 3

    Kick off your crew

    Create a Crew with your agent and tasks. Call crew.kickoff() — the agent will automatically invoke Todoist tools as needed.

crew.py
from crewai import Agent, Task, Crew

agent = Agent(
    role="Todoist Analyst",
    goal="Access and analyze Todoist data via MCP.",
    backstory="Expert analyst with direct Todoist access.",
    mcps=[
        "https://edge.vinkius.com/[YOUR_TOKEN_HERE]/mcp"
    ],
)

task = Task(
    description="List recent Todoist transactions",
    agent=agent,
    expected_output="A summary of recent activity",
)

crew = Crew(agents=[agent], tasks=[task])
result = crew.kickoff()
print(result)

Common questions about Todoist MCP in CrewAI

CrewAI treats the MCP Server tools as specialized functions for its agents. Instead of one agent doing everything, you give roles: Agent A handles creation, Agent B handles listing.
Yes, the `list_projects` tool lets a monitoring agent pull every project name. This provides the necessary context map before any action is taken.
You can use `update_task_details` and `reopen_task`. An agent specialized in maintenance handles these changes based on the project's needs.
The `list_all_labels` tool gives your agents full visibility into all available tags. This lets a specialized classification agent sort and group tasks automatically.
It touches Task status, Project structure (sections/metadata), and labeling data.
