Plan complex journeys across London

With the google-adk, your agent can take unstructured inputs and plan a journey. Use `get_journey` to calculate multiple route options based on station names or postcodes. The long context of Gemini models helps it reason through multi-step connections. It's perfect for enterprise systems that need to process complex travel requirements before calling the MCP Server.

Monitor real-time TFL status via MCP Server

Need a full picture of London traffic? Your agent can check all lines using `get_line_status` and get detailed disruption reports from `get_road_disruptions`. You don't have to manually poll every line. This system provides granular status updates, telling you if the service is delayed or fully suspended.

Deep location lookup for TFL assets

The MCP Server allows your agent to look up anything from bike points (`get_bike_points`) to specific bus stops. If you only have a station name, use `search_stop` first to get the required ID before querying arrivals. It also supports detailed lookup of specific TFL lines using `get_line_detail`, providing info on tube, tram, or river services.

Setup guide

Set up Transport for London MCP in Google ADK

Prerequisites

  • Python 3.10+ installed
  • google-adk package (pip install google-adk)
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
  1. 1

    Install Google ADK

    Run pip install google-adk to install the Agent Development Kit. MCP support is included via the McpToolset class.

  2. 2

    Connect via SSE transport

    Use McpToolset.from_server() with SseServerParams pointing to your Vinkius endpoint. Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your token from cloud.vinkius.com.

  3. 3

    Create an LlmAgent

    Pass the returned mcp_tools list directly to LlmAgent(tools=mcp_tools). The ADK maps each MCP tool to a native Gemini function call — no manual schema definitions required.

  4. 4

    Run with any Gemini model

    The agent works with any Gemini model (gemini-2.0-flash, gemini-2.5-pro, etc.). Copy the full example on the right to get started with Transport for London tools in your ADK agent.

agent.py
from google.adk.agents import LlmAgent
from google.adk.tools.mcp_tool.mcp_toolset import McpToolset
from google.adk.tools.mcp_tool.mcp_session_manager import SseServerParams

# Connect to the MCP via SSE
mcp_tools, exit_stack = await McpToolset.from_server(
    connection_params=SseServerParams(
        url="https://edge.vinkius.com/[YOUR_TOKEN_HERE]/mcp"
    )
)

# Create your agent with auto-discovered tools
agent = LlmAgent(
    name="Transport for London_agent",
    model="gemini-2.0-flash",
    instruction="You have access to Transport for London tools via MCP.",
    tools=mcp_tools,
)

Common questions about Transport for London MCP in Google ADK

The google-adk uses its native integration to pass data to the MCP Server tools. Because it supports BigQuery, you can feed historical TFL records into your agents and have them act on that context.
Yes. You pass the starting and ending points to `get_journey`, and the system returns step-by-step directions, including estimated duration and fare costs, which is ideal for enterprise workflow logging.
The server handles public transit metadata, specifically including line status updates and predicted arrival times at bus stops. It never touches personal passenger data.
It does. By calling `get_journey`, your agent gets multiple route options that factor in walking, tube travel, and other modes into one plan.
You get detailed information on both major roads (`get_road_status`) and underground lines. This helps you understand if congestion is minor, severe, or if a line is completely suspended.
