Automate Data Retrieval for Development

You can tell Cline to build a dashboard component that needs current flora data. It fetches the list of main species using `list_plants`, and then writes the necessary API wrapper code to consume it. It doesn't just give you JSON; it creates the files, imports the data schema, and stages commits for review.

Build Data-Driven Validation Scripts

Need to validate a large dataset of botanical records? Cline runs tests. It can fetch details using `get_species` or `search_species`, then write Python code that checks the integrity of those results. If there's an issue, it uses `report_species_error`. The entire process—fetch, test, report—happens within one task execution.

Process Distribution Mapping Tasks

Use Cline to script the extraction of distribution data. You can tell it to loop through zones and call `get_distribution_plants`, filtering by establishment like 'native.' It handles the iteration, writes the output to a structured file (like CSV), and includes unit tests for the resulting dataset.

Common questions about Trefle MCP in Cline

Yes. You can instruct it to write a function that calls `get_plant` or `get_genus`. It handles the API interaction and writes the resulting data into your project's memory structure.
It provides structured access to botanical records. You can use `list_genera` to gather a list of all genera, and then write code that processes this hierarchy into a database model.
Anything end-to-end. You tell it: 'Build a report showing species found in Zone X.' Cline then calls `get_distribution_plants`, processes the data, and writes the final component.
Trefle manages plant taxonomy, including detailed records of species, genera, varieties, and distribution zone metadata. It's all structured data you can code against.
It is. You can write a script that detects errors by querying `list_species` and then automatically calls `submit_species_correction` to fix the records, all without manual intervention.
