Injecting Botanical Context

When you write code, let the AI call `get_plant` to fetch live details for a specific plant. This data gets injected right into your function's scope. You can then use this context immediately. For example, if your script needs location data, calling `get_distribution_plants` ensures the coordinates are real and up-to-date.

Structuring Taxonomy Queries

Need to know a species' full lineage? You can call `get_species` for granular details. Alternatively, use `list_genera` when you need a foundational list of all available genera. The AI agent uses these tools to build accurate code blocks that rely on structured data, making your output much more reliable than stubs.

Searching and Validating Data

If your function requires a known species name, the agent calls `search_species` to verify it exists. This keeps your code clean and accurate. Should you spot an error in the source data? You can trigger `report_species_error`, which allows you to programmatically submit corrections when developing against the botanical API.

Setup guide

Set up Trefle MCP in Cursor

Prerequisites

  • Cursor installed (macOS, Windows, or Linux)
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
  1. 1

    Open MCP Settings

Go to Cursor Settings → MCP or open the Command Palette (Cmd+Shift+P / Ctrl+Shift+P) and search for "MCP: Add Server".

  2. 2

    Add the Trefle MCP

Cursor will create or open .cursor/mcp.json in your project root. Paste the JSON snippet on the right. Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your endpoint token from cloud.vinkius.com.

  3. 3

    Enable Agent mode

Open Composer (Cmd+I / Ctrl+I) and switch to Agent mode using the dropdown at the top. MCP tools are only available in Agent mode.

  4. 4

    Verify the connection

Ask Cursor something like "List my recent Trefle transactions." If the MCP tools are loaded correctly, Cursor will call the Trefle tools automatically. You can also check Settings → MCP for a green status indicator.

Common questions about Trefle MCP in Cursor

In your code, you simply let the AI call `get_distribution_plants`. You pass in the required parameters (like a filter for an establishment) and the live data gets returned to fill your function's variables.
You use `list_plants` to generate a clean array of primary plant names. This is perfect for initializing lists or iterating over known assets in your code base.
Yes, you can list all available genera by calling `list_genera`. The agent then uses the resulting IDs to fetch specific details via `get_genus` for your code.
You can call `submit_species_correction`. This tool lets you take a suspected issue, provide the correction, and submit it directly from your coding environment.
This MCP Server handles botanical and taxonomic data—specifically genus, species, plant names, and geographical distribution records. The data is purely scientific in nature.
