Cross-Referencing People Data with the MCP Server

If you need to build a function that links an actor to all their work, `get_person` handles it. Give it the person's numeric ID and you get back their name, birthday, birthplace, photo URL, bio, and even external IDs for IMDb or Wikipedia.

Retrieving Full Episode Guides with Cursor

To build an episode guide endpoint, use `get_show_episodes`. This tool gives you season/episode number, air date, name, summary, and runtime for a specific show. You can also set `specials=true` if you need to include bonus or special episodes.

Getting All Known Future Broadcasts with the MCP Server

For scheduling features, call `get_full_schedule`. This returns every future episode across all shows and networks. Since this response is huge (multiple MB), it's perfect for loading into a large data structure in your code.

Set up TVMaze MCP in Cursor

Prerequisites

  • Cursor installed (macOS, Windows, or Linux)
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token

    Open MCP Settings

Go to Cursor Settings → MCP or open the Command Palette (Cmd+Shift+P / Ctrl+Shift+P) and search for "MCP: Add Server".

  2. 2

Common questions about TVMaze MCP in Cursor

Just call the `get_show` tool. You'll receive the name, genres, network, premiere/end dates, rating, runtime, summary, and external IDs for that entire series.
This server touches media metadata: show names, episode summaries, character roles, person IDs, network information, and broadcast dates. It's all structured data ready for your database.
Yes. Use `get_show_cast`. This tool lists every cast member, providing their name, character name, and photo link directly into your script.
If you know a show's exact title, use `single_search`. If you just have a general idea or might misspell it, run `search_shows` instead. Both options help you locate what you need.
The server returns complex objects containing strings (names, summaries), numbers (episode count, runtime), and dates (air date, premiere date). You'll also get multiple URLs for images.
