Negotiating communication strategies

AutoGen excels when agents debate the best way to communicate. One agent can call `list_workspaces` to identify all targets, while another calls `create_thread` to propose a discussion in a specific area. They negotiate which channel is most appropriate for the topic and who should be involved.

Automating conversation management

The framework can manage complex updates. A 'Review Agent' might read existing content using `list_threads`, and a 'Drafting Agent' then uses `update_thread` to revise the message, leading to consensus. This process of discussion and revision is exactly what AutoGen models best.

Tracking user roles for collaboration

Need an agent to check who needs to be involved? Calling `list_workspace_users` provides the roster. This list can then feed into a debate: 'Should Agent A talk to User B, or should we start a thread?' The agents deliberate on the optimal communication path.

Setup guide

Set up Twist MCP in AutoGen

Prerequisites

  • Python 3.10+ installed
  • autogen-ext[mcp] package
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
  1. 1

    Install AutoGen with MCP

    Run pip install "autogen-ext[mcp]" autogen-agentchat. The MCP extension includes mcp_server_tools for stateless tool access.

  2. 2

    Fetch tools from the MCP

    Call mcp_server_tools(SseServerParams(url=...)) with your Vinkius endpoint. Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your token from cloud.vinkius.com.

  3. 3

    Run your agent

    Pass the tools to AssistantAgent and call agent.run(). The agent invokes Twist tools and returns structured results.

agent.py
from autogen_ext.tools.mcp import SseServerParams, mcp_server_tools
from autogen_agentchat.agents import AssistantAgent
from autogen_ext.models.openai import OpenAIChatCompletionClient

server_params = SseServerParams(
    url="https://edge.vinkius.com/[YOUR_TOKEN_HERE]/mcp"
)

tools = await mcp_server_tools(server_params)

agent = AssistantAgent(
    name="Twist_assistant",
    model_client=OpenAIChatCompletionClient(model="gpt-4o"),
    tools=tools,
)

result = await agent.run("List recent Twist data")
print(result.messages[-1].content)

Common questions about Twist MCP in AutoGen

The agents collaborate by first listing available channels using `list_channels`. They then debate which channel is best for the topic and decide on a final action, like calling `create_thread`.
Yes. The agents can discuss that an existing message needs changing, and then one agent executes the change by calling `update_direct_message`, resolving disagreements on the final text.
You call `list_workspace_users`. The agents then use this list as context, debating which user group or specific individuals should be involved in the final discussion.
The server provides structured data like `channel_id`s and `workspace_id`s, alongside text content from threads and messages. The agents use these different types in their decision-making.
The server touches direct message contents and conversation IDs. When running multi-agent debates, you must ensure that private `direct_message` content is used only for its intended purpose in the consensus process.
