Find Images and Collections using the MCP Server

Need quick visual context? You can search for collections by topic—like 'Nature' or 'Architecture'—using `search_collections`. This gets you IDs and names so your AI client knows exactly what you want. You also get a list of curated topics with `list_editorial_topics`. It’s handy if you don't know the right keyword but just want to browse categories.

Deep Dive into Specific Photos

If you already have a photo ID, use `get_photo_details` to grab all the metadata. This gives you info like when it was uploaded or who took it. Want to see everything one user shot? Just pass an author's name to `get_photographer_photos`. It lists all their uploads for you.

Keep Your Project Visual and Current

When your project needs fresh assets, ask the agent to get a random image with `get_random_photo`. You can even narrow that down by giving it a query. Need to check what's trending? The tool offers `list_latest_photos`, showing you the most recently uploaded stuff on Unsplash. It’s good for keeping your content fresh.

Common questions about Unsplash MCP in Claude Desktop

Just call any of the photo tools, like `search_photos`. Claude Desktop handles the API connection and spits out the relevant IDs and URLs right into your local files or chat output.
This server touches photo metadata, including image IDs, photographer usernames, collection names, and topic categories. You'll get all the text and links you need for attribution.
Absolutely. Use `search_photographers` first to check out usernames, then feed that name into `get_photographer_photos`. The MCP Server handles the full retrieval process for you.
Yes. Since Claude Desktop lets your tools run as subprocesses locally, you can pull photo data and write that raw JSON directly into a local file or database entry.
