Run and Manage Live Queries with the MCP Server

Need to run a query? Your agent calls `execute_sql_query` using a dataset ID and ANSI SQL. It gets back a unique query ID, which you can track later. You can check if it's done or what stage it's in by calling `get_query_status`. If the job is stuck, use `cancel_running_query` to abort the task immediately.

Explore and Sample Veraset Data

Before writing any code, you gotta know what you're working with. The agent first calls `list_mobility_datasets` to see all available data sources in Veraset. Then it checks the structure using `get_dataset_schema` or just grabs a quick look at the data sample with `get_dataset_sample`.

Download and Retrieve Results

Once the query finishes, you pull the results via `get_query_results`, handling pagination if there's a lot of output. If you need it for another system, `generate_download_link` gives you a temporary S3 URL to download the file directly.

Setup guide

Set up Veraset MCP in Windsurf

Prerequisites

  • Windsurf IDE installed (macOS, Windows, or Linux)
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
  1. 1

    Open MCP configuration

Click the Cascade assistant icon in the sidebar, then click the hammer icon (🔨) at the top of the panel. Select "Configure" to open ~/.codeium/windsurf/mcp_config.json.

  2. 2

    Add the Veraset MCP

Paste the JSON snippet shown on the right into the mcpServers object. Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your endpoint token from cloud.vinkius.com.

  3. 3

    Refresh MCPs

Go back to the hammer icon (🔨) in Cascade and click "Refresh". Windsurf will detect the new server. No full restart is needed — the connection is hot-reloaded.

  4. 4

    Verify in Cascade

Start a new Cascade conversation and ask something like "Show my Veraset payment history." If connected, Cascade will call the Veraset tools directly. You will see a green dot next to the server name in the MCP panel.

Common questions about Veraset MCP in Windsurf

You just tell your agent to run `list_mobility_datasets`. It sends a list of all accessible mobility dataset IDs, so you know exactly where to start.
Use the `get_dataset_schema` tool. That function returns the column definitions and data types, letting you adjust your SQL query before running it on the MCP Server.
Yep. You use `get_query_status` and pass in the query ID that `execute_sql_query` gives you. It tells you the current progress or if it hit an error.
The MCP Server handles the output retrieval via `get_query_results`. You can then use `generate_download_link` to get a pre-signed URL, which lets you pull the final file contents.
This MCP Server touches mobility datasets and SQL query results. The system keeps these structured data types isolated during the workflow process, ensuring your work stays within the specified scope.
