Conflict Resolution in Scheduling

You can set up a debate between two agents. One agent calls `list_events` to get all dates, while another calls `get_volunteer` for specific availability. They then negotiate which overlapping time slot is best. This consensus-driven approach finds the optimal solution when simple sequential calls would fail because of conflicting inputs or constraints.

Full Volunteer Compliance Check

A system can run a deliberation where one agent checks `list_volunteers` for all participants. A second agent uses `get_volunteer_hours` to verify minimum required hours, and a third confirms the status using `check_volunteerhub_status`. They debate compliance until a final decision is reached. This moves beyond simple data retrieval; it models human oversight by forcing agents to validate each other's findings.

Multi-Stage Opportunity Planning

Need to plan a complex outreach? Agent A calls `list_groups` for relevant cohorts. Agent B uses those group IDs to check `list_opportunities`. Finally, Agent C verifies capacity using the event details from `get_event`. The agents challenge assumptions at every stage, ensuring that the final recommended action is fully vetted by competing AI perspectives.

Setup guide

Set up VolunteerHub MCP in AutoGen

Prerequisites

  • Python 3.10+ installed
  • autogen-ext[mcp] package
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
  1. 1

    Install AutoGen with MCP

    Run pip install "autogen-ext[mcp]" autogen-agentchat. The MCP extension includes mcp_server_tools for stateless tool access.

  2. 2

    Fetch tools from the MCP

    Call mcp_server_tools(SseServerParams(url=...)) with your Vinkius endpoint. Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your token from cloud.vinkius.com.

  3. 3

    Run your agent

    Pass the tools to AssistantAgent and call agent.run(). The agent invokes VolunteerHub tools and returns structured results.

agent.py
from autogen_ext.tools.mcp import SseServerParams, mcp_server_tools
from autogen_agentchat.agents import AssistantAgent
from autogen_ext.models.openai import OpenAIChatCompletionClient

server_params = SseServerParams(
    url="https://edge.vinkius.com/[YOUR_TOKEN_HERE]/mcp"
)

tools = await mcp_server_tools(server_params)

agent = AssistantAgent(
    name="VolunteerHub_assistant",
    model_client=OpenAIChatCompletionClient(model="gpt-4o"),
    tools=tools,
)

result = await agent.run("List recent VolunteerHub data")
print(result.messages[-1].content)

Common questions about VolunteerHub MCP in AutoGen

AutoGen uses the tools to simulate decision-making. For example, multiple agents might debate which list of events (`list_events`) is most critical based on varying priorities.
Yes. You can set up a negotiation where agents compare available resources (like `get_volunteer` details) against required slots to find the optimal, agreed-upon schedule.
The server gives access to ten tools, including `list_groups`, `list_volunteers`, and various 'get' functions that allow agents to query specific HR records for discussion.
It excels at this. By making multiple agents argue over which tool output is correct, it converges on a single, robust decision that accounts for conflicting information.
Because the system involves personal volunteer identifiers (names, IDs) and sensitive activity records (hours), ensure your agents' debate rules prohibit sharing or transmitting this raw HR data unnecessarily.
