How to Use the Weblate MCP in OpenAI Agents SDK
Automate your entire localization backend with the OpenAI Agents SDK.
Works with every AI agent you already use
…and any MCP-compatible client
Connect Weblate MCP to OpenAI Agents SDK
Create your Vinkius account to connect Weblate to OpenAI Agents SDK and route execution through our secure gateway. The platform manages server hosting, runtime updates, and security layers. Configuration requires no manual server provisioning.
Manage all Weblate Users and Groups
You can create new users, call `create_user`, or delete accounts using `delete_user`. The agent also lists existing team members via `list_users` and manages permissions by calling `add_group_admins`. This tool lets your AI client handle onboarding tasks. Need to restrict who sees what? Use `get_role` to check permission details before assigning them.
Set up New Projects and Components
Start a new localization effort by calling `create_project`. Once the project exists, you can flesh it out immediately. The agent uses `list_project_components` to see what's already there before running `create_project_component`. This process ensures every piece of content gets tracked. You get a full picture of your setup by calling `get_group`.
Track Language Definitions and Stats
Check what languages are available globally using `list_languages`. For deeper checks, the agent can pull specific language metadata via `get_language`, which shows things like plural formulas. Need to see how many translations exist for a single language? Use `get_language_statistics` to get global numbers fast. The MCP Server handles all this data retrieval.
Set up Weblate MCP in OpenAI Agents SDK
Prerequisites
- Python 3.10+ installed
-
openai-agentspackage (pip install openai-agents) - Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
- 1
Install the SDK
Run
pip install openai-agentsto install the OpenAI Agents SDK. The MCP integration is built-in — no extra dependencies needed. - 2
Connect via SSE transport
Use
MCPServerSsewith your Vinkius endpoint URL. Replace[YOUR_TOKEN_HERE]with your token from cloud.vinkius.com. The SDK auto-discovers all Weblate tools at runtime. - 3
Create your Agent
Pass the MCP to
Agent(mcp_servers=[server]). The agent receives Weblate tools as native definitions — JSON schemas resolve automatically. - 4
Run the agent
Call
Runner.run(agent, prompt)to execute. The agent invokes the appropriate Weblate tools and returns structured results. Copy the full example on the right to get started.
import asyncio
from agents import Agent, Runner
from agents.mcp import MCPServerSse
async def main():
async with MCPServerSse(
url="https://edge.vinkius.com/[YOUR_TOKEN_HERE]/mcp"
) as server:
agent = Agent(
name="Weblate Agent",
instructions="You have access to Weblate tools.",
mcp_servers=[server],
)
result = await Runner.run(agent, "List recent transactions")
print(result.final_output)
asyncio.run(main()) Independent Platform Disclaimer: Vinkius is an independent platform and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, verified by, or otherwise authorized by Weblate.
