Make Choices with YesNo and Windsurf

Need a tiebreaker? Call the `get_decision` tool to get an instant, random yes, no, or maybe answer. This is perfect when your Cascade agent hits a decision point it can't resolve on its own. The result comes with a fun GIF, so you know exactly what kind of gut feeling you're getting. Use this to help decide which path to take next in your multi-step process.

Handling Uncertainty via MCP Server

Sometimes the answer isn't clear-cut, and that’s fine. The `get_decision` tool provides a 'maybe' option, letting your agent acknowledge genuine ambiguity. This prevents your workflow from stalling when real-world data is messy or contradictory.

Testing Decision Logic in Windsurf

You can test how your automated processes handle random inputs using `get_decision`. Just feed the decision tool into a sequence and watch it run. This helps you validate that your agent's logic holds up whether the answer is definitive or just 'maybe'.

Setup guide

Set up YesNo MCP in Windsurf

Prerequisites

  • Windsurf IDE installed (macOS, Windows, or Linux)
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
  1. 1

    Open MCP configuration

Click the Cascade assistant icon in the sidebar, then click the hammer icon (🔨) at the top of the panel. Select "Configure" to open ~/.codeium/windsurf/mcp_config.json.

  2. 2

    Add the YesNo MCP

Paste the JSON snippet shown on the right into the mcpServers object. Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your endpoint token from cloud.vinkius.com.

  3. 3

    Refresh MCPs

Go back to the hammer icon (🔨) in Cascade and click "Refresh". Windsurf will detect the new server. No full restart is needed — the connection is hot-reloaded.

  4. 4

    Verify in Cascade

Start a new Cascade conversation and ask something like "Show my YesNo payment history." If connected, Cascade will call the YesNo tools directly. You will see a green dot next to the server name in the MCP panel.

Common questions about YesNo MCP in Windsurf

Yes. The `get_decision` tool provides a randomized yes, no, or maybe output. Your agent uses this to break ties when planning multi-step actions.
The server only handles decision type data (yes/no/maybe). It's purely for making choices and doesn't interact with external records or files.
You can. While it provides random input, the `get_decision` tool lets you test how your agent handles non-definitive or random outcomes when planning.
You connect the server via the MCP panel. Cascade auto-discovers the `get_decision` tool, letting you call it as if it were a built-in function.
Absolutely. It's designed specifically to help your agent make choices or break ties with a random yes, no, or maybe result and accompanying GIF.
