Key Capabilities

Autonomous monitoring with CrewAI

Assign a monitor agent to watch your hardware using `get_devices` and `ping_device`. It identifies issues before you even know they exist. Your crew collaborates to keep the fleet running. One agent observes while the other handles the diagnostics.

Specialized hardware intervention

Give your acting agent the `call_function` tool to perform remote maintenance. It executes commands based on the analysis provided by other agents. This removes the need for manual oversight. Your crew handles the routine adjustments automatically.

Detailed device diagnostics

Use `get_device_info` to let agents understand what each sensor can do. They map out the capabilities of new hardware as soon as you add it. This eliminates configuration drift. Your agents always have an accurate map of your hardware interface.

Setup guide

Set up Particle IoT MCP in CrewAI

Prerequisites

  • Python 3.10+ installed
  • crewai package (pip install crewai)
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
  1. 1

    Install CrewAI

    Run pip install crewai to install the framework. MCP support is built-in via the mcps parameter.

  2. 2

    Add the MCP URL to your agent

    Pass your Vinkius endpoint directly to the mcps list. Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your token from cloud.vinkius.com. CrewAI handles tool discovery and caching automatically.

  3. 3

    Kick off your crew

    Create a Crew with your agent and tasks. Call crew.kickoff() — the agent will automatically invoke Particle IoT tools as needed.

crew.py
from crewai import Agent, Task, Crew

agent = Agent(
    role="Particle IoT Analyst",
    goal="Access and analyze Particle IoT data via MCP.",
    backstory="Expert analyst with direct Particle IoT access.",
    mcps=[
        "https://edge.vinkius.com/[YOUR_TOKEN_HERE]/mcp"
    ],
)

task = Task(
    description="List recent Particle IoT transactions",
    agent=agent,
    expected_output="A summary of recent activity",
)

crew = Crew(agents=[agent], tasks=[task])
result = crew.kickoff()
print(result)

Common questions about Particle IoT MCP in CrewAI

Pass the server URL to your agent configuration. Each agent can then use specific tools like `read_variable` to perform their assigned role.
Yes. By granting `call_function` access, you allow agents to trigger physical actions based on their collaborative reasoning.
The MCP server is designed for concurrent access. Multiple agents can check device status or publish events simultaneously.
Use the tool_filter parameter in your agent setup. You can limit agents to read-only access with `read_variable` while keeping write tools for managers.
Data is restricted to your specific Vinkius account. Only the agents you authorize can read your sensitive sensor values and device metadata.
