Key Capabilities

Stream Postman collections via Vercel AI SDK

Connect your frontend straight to your API registry using `list_workspaces` and `list_collections`. When a user asks what endpoints exist, your agent hits these tools. The Vercel AI SDK streams the result back instantly. No loading spinners appear while it fetches data. You can build internal developer portals that actually feel fast. Call `get_collection_details` to pull the exact request structures and render them as React components on the fly. Your team gets immediate access to the API documentation they need.

Render environment variables on demand

Run `list_environments` to skip digging through tabs and stream available configurations right into your chat UI. Debugging API states usually takes too long. Your AI client grabs the active variables instantly. If a developer needs the exact staging keys, the agent calls `get_environment_details`. It grabs the current variable set and pushes it to the screen. You can even list active mock servers with `list_mocks` to show exactly where requests route.

Live monitor status in your UI

Use `list_monitors` to grab scheduled collection runs and stream their pass/fail status into your Next.js app. API health should not be hidden in an external dashboard. The data appears exactly where developers already work. It gives your team a real-time view of what is breaking. Pair this with `list_apis` to map failing monitors back to their parent API definitions. The MCP Server handles the heavy lifting while your UI stays completely responsive.

Setup guide

Set up Postman MCP in Vercel AI SDK

Prerequisites

  • Node.js 18+ and a TypeScript project
  • ai + @modelcontextprotocol/sdk packages
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
  1. 1

    Install dependencies

    Run npm install ai @modelcontextprotocol/sdk plus your preferred model provider (e.g. @ai-sdk/openai).

  2. 2

    Create the Streamable HTTP transport

    Use StreamableHTTPClientTransport with your Vinkius endpoint URL. Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your token from cloud.vinkius.com.

  3. 3

    Discover and use tools

    Call mcpClient.tools() to auto-discover all Postman tools. Pass them directly to generateText() or streamText() — no manual schema definitions needed.

  4. 4

    Works with any model provider

    Swap openai("gpt-4o") for any AI SDK provider — Anthropic, Google, Mistral. The MCP tools work identically across all supported models.

index.ts
import { experimental_createMCPClient as createMCPClient } from "ai";
import { StreamableHTTPClientTransport } from "@modelcontextprotocol/sdk/client/streamableHttp";
import { generateText } from "ai";
import { openai } from "@ai-sdk/openai";

const transport = new StreamableHTTPClientTransport(
  new URL("https://edge.vinkius.com/[YOUR_TOKEN_HERE]/mcp")
);

const mcpClient = await createMCPClient({ transport });
const tools = await mcpClient.tools();

const { text } = await generateText({
  model: openai("gpt-4o"),
  tools,
  prompt: "List recent Postman transactions",
});

console.log(text);
await mcpClient.close();

Common questions about Postman MCP in Vercel AI SDK

Use `createMCPClient` with an HTTP transport. Call `mcpClient.tools()` and pass the array straight into your `streamText` function. Everything wires up immediately.
Yes. When the agent triggers `get_collection_details`, the SDK streams the parsed JSON chunks directly to your React components. Users see the endpoints as they arrive.
No. The MCP server handles the API token management automatically. You just provide the HTTP endpoint to the setup function.
The SDK handles large tool execution outputs natively. You might want to parse the monitor list before rendering it to keep the UI clean.
Your environment variables and API schemas pass directly from the server to your application memory. The agent reads `get_environment_details` payloads locally without routing them through external tracking.
