Key Capabilities

Discover Available Sources

The team needs data first. Agents can use `list_hosted_assets` to see all files on the server, or `list_ingested_sources` to check recently uploaded content. This gives the 'Researcher' agent a clear view of what materials are ready for analysis and video generation.

Execute Video Generation

The core action is running `render_video`, which returns a render ID. Once that job is initiated, the team can check its progress using `get_render_status`. This ensures that the 'Producer' agent waits for confirmation before declaring the task complete.

Review and Finalize Outputs

After rendering, use `list_assets_from_render` to find all files associated with the job ID. You can also review the entire history using `list_recent_renders`. This allows a 'Moderator' agent to confirm that every required output file is present and correct.

Setup guide

Set up Shotstack MCP in CrewAI

Prerequisites

  • Python 3.10+ installed
  • crewai package (pip install crewai)
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
  1. 1

    Install CrewAI

    Run pip install crewai to install the framework. MCP support is built-in via the mcps parameter.

  2. 2

    Add the MCP URL to your agent

    Pass your Vinkius endpoint directly to the mcps list. Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your token from cloud.vinkius.com. CrewAI handles tool discovery and caching automatically.

  3. 3

    Kick off your crew

    Create a Crew with your agent and tasks. Call crew.kickoff() — the agent will automatically invoke Shotstack tools as needed.

crew.py
from crewai import Agent, Task, Crew

agent = Agent(
    role="Shotstack Analyst",
    goal="Access and analyze Shotstack data via MCP.",
    backstory="Expert analyst with direct Shotstack access.",
    mcps=[
        "https://edge.vinkius.com/[YOUR_TOKEN_HERE]/mcp"
    ],
)

task = Task(
    description="List recent Shotstack transactions",
    agent=agent,
    expected_output="A summary of recent activity",
)

crew = Crew(agents=[agent], tasks=[task])
result = crew.kickoff()
print(result)

Common questions about Shotstack MCP in CrewAI

The MCP Server provides `list_hosted_assets` and `list_ingested_sources`. These tools let the agents 'discover' all available materials needed for their collaborative task.
Yes. The team can first call `list_templates` to see what video structure is available, or the agent can use `create_video_template` if a new format is required.
The server manages various media assets. It handles both ingested source materials and the final rendered videos, which can be confirmed using `list_assets_from_render`.
It does. The `list_recent_renders` tool gives a full audit trail of video creation efforts, helping the crew monitor their overall throughput.
This server touches media assets and video content. The team's operations require access to both source materials (ingested via `ingest_media_source`) and the resulting rendered videos.
