Key Capabilities

Programmatic Video Rendering in Cursor

Start a render job by calling `render_video` and capture the returned ID. This allows you to immediately write code that uses that ID for subsequent calls, like checking status with `get_render_status`. The AI writes the full sequence right into your file. This process lets you handle complex pipelines: initiate the render, wait on the status, then pull assets using `list_assets_from_render`—all in one block of executable code.

Building Video Templates with MCP Server

Need to build a new video template? Use `create_video_template` and pass your specifications. The tool saves the edit, giving you a reusable asset definition. You can list what's available first by calling `list_templates`. This helps ensure you don't accidentally overwrite an existing project structure.

Checking Media Sources and History

If you need to know if the source media is uploaded, use `list_ingested_sources` or check general availability with `list_hosted_assets`. These functions give live context. To keep track of everything, run `list_recent_renders`. It pulls the job history so you don't have to remember manual IDs.

Common questions about Shotstack MCP in Cursor

When using Agent mode, your AI client generates working code that uses `render_video`. You get the ID and can immediately write follow-up logic to check its status.
You use `list_assets_from_render`. Simply provide the Job ID into that function, and your agent writes the code necessary to pull all associated files.
Yes. You use `create_video_template` to save an edit. This lets you programmatically manage and reuse your creative assets without leaving the editor.
The server handles uploaded asset metadata through `ingest_media_source` and lists what's available via `list_ingested_sources`. This provides live context for your code.
You use `get_render_status` and pass the unique ID. Your agent writes the necessary polling loop until the desired status is reached, confirming completion.
