Use `get_expenses` when your agent needs a complete list of all logged expenses. If you're only checking one item, calling `get_expense` retrieves that single record. You can also verify the context by running `get_group`, which gives the parameters for the group managing those debts.

`get_user` pulls detailed information on any user ID provided. Furthermore, if you need to know who's involved, `get_friends` lists all connected contacts. To get details for a single person, the agent uses `get_friend`, ensuring the data returned matches the expected structure.

Set up Splitwise MCP in Pydantic AI

Prerequisites

    Run pip install "pydantic-ai-slim[fastmcp]". The FastMCP toolset replaces the deprecated MCPServerHTTP class with full protocol support.

    Pass a JSON-style config dict to FastMCPToolset with your Vinkius URL. Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your token from cloud.vinkius.com. Supports Streamable HTTP, SSE, and Stdio transports.

    Create and run your agent

    Pass the toolset to Agent(toolsets=[toolset]) and call agent.run(). Swap openai:gpt-4o for any supported model — Anthropic, Google, Mistral, or Groq.
