Key Capabilities

Querying and Data Access

The `execute_query` tool lets you run any arbitrary SQL query against your StarRocks data. You don't need to open a separate terminal; just ask Claude, and it handles the full lifecycle of running and interpreting results. It’s perfect for PMs who need live API data or developers testing complex joins without leaving the chat interface.

Checking Cluster Health

Need to know if your StarRocks cluster is healthy? The `get_cluster_info` tool provides details on the frontend nodes. You can also run `list_nodes` to see a rundown of all backend nodes currently active. This helps you quickly diagnose connectivity issues or spot resource bottlenecks before they impact query performance.

Database and Schema Exploration

Don't know where the data lives? Use `list_databases` to see every database in your StarRocks deployment. Once inside, tools like `list_tables` or `list_views` show you exactly what objects are available. Plus, `get_table_schema` pulls out the precise structure—column names and data types—so you know exactly how to write your next query.

Common questions about StarRocks MCP in Claude Desktop

You simply describe the analysis you need in natural language. The agent uses `execute_query` under the hood, running optimized SQL against your StarRocks cluster and giving you a direct answer in the chat window.
Yes. You can use the `list_jobs` tool to see all existing data load jobs. This lets you track whether scheduled ETL processes are running on time within StarRocks.
It provides deep visibility into the entire cluster, including storage usage via `get_storage_usage`, and a full list of materialized views using `list_mvs`.
Absolutely. It gives developers access to core management tools, like checking the structure with `get_table_schema`, which is essential when building applications on top of StarRocks.
This server interacts with general schema metadata (column names and data types) provided by the database, but it doesn't handle raw user PII directly through its tools.
