Coordinate Box file management in VS Code Copilot

Your team can share a single `.vscode/mcp.json` file to keep everyone on the same page. Use `get_folder_info` to grab metadata for shared project assets. Everyone gets the same access to your cloud storage right in their editor. It removes the guesswork about where files live.

Search your Box storage from VS Code Copilot

Use `search_content` to find project requirements or design docs stored in the cloud. It filters by file extension, so you get exactly the docs you need. It saves you from tabbing out to the browser. Your agent fetches the info and drops it right into your chat history.

Track collaborators in VS Code Copilot

Use `get_folder_collaborations` to verify who has access to your project folders. It helps ensure your team is aligned before you push changes. You can also use `list_users` to see the full list of enterprise users. It’s a quick check to keep your project access secure.

Setup guide

Set up Box MCP in VS Code Copilot

Prerequisites

  • VS Code 1.99 or later with GitHub Copilot extension
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
  1. 1

    Open MCP configuration

Open the Command Palette (Cmd+Shift+P / Ctrl+Shift+P) and run "MCP: Add Server". Select HTTP (Streamable) as the server type. VS Code will create .vscode/mcp.json in your workspace.

  2. 2

    Add the Box MCP

Paste the JSON snippet shown on the right into your .vscode/mcp.json. Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your endpoint token from cloud.vinkius.com.

  3. 3

    Switch to Agent mode

Open Copilot Chat (Cmd+Shift+I / Ctrl+Shift+I) and switch to Agent mode using the dropdown. MCP tools are only available in Agent mode — they do not appear in Edit or Ask modes.

  4. 4

    Verify the connection

In the Copilot Chat input, type # to list available tools. You should see the Box tools listed. Try asking: "List my recent Box transactions" and Copilot will invoke them automatically.
