Debate coverage metrics in AutoGen

Have one agent call `get_commit_coverage_totals` while another critiques the result. They negotiate whether a commit is ready to merge based on the hard numbers. This multi-agent loop forces a consensus on code quality. The agents challenge each other until they agree the coverage meets your internal standards.

Automate Codecov audits with AutoGen

Deploy a security agent that uses `list_coverage_flags` to ensure test requirements are met. It debates with a developer agent if a flag is missing from a new feature. Your system converges on a decision without you needing to intervene. The agents handle the back-and-forth until the repository setup is compliant.

Manage repos with AutoGen agents

Instruct your agents to use `list_codecov_repositories` to inventory your projects. They discuss which repos need more aggressive testing based on the current metrics. This creates a self-governing team of agents. They identify low-coverage projects and propose fixes through their internal debate process.

Setup guide

Set up Codecov MCP in AutoGen

Prerequisites

  • Python 3.10+ installed
  • autogen-ext[mcp] package
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
  1. 1

    Install AutoGen with MCP

    Run pip install "autogen-ext[mcp]" autogen-agentchat. The MCP extension includes mcp_server_tools for stateless tool access.

  2. 2

    Fetch tools from the MCP

    Call mcp_server_tools(SseServerParams(url=...)) with your Vinkius endpoint. Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your token from cloud.vinkius.com.

  3. 3

    Run your agent

    Pass the tools to AssistantAgent and call agent.run(). The agent invokes Codecov tools and returns structured results.

agent.py
from autogen_ext.tools.mcp import SseServerParams, mcp_server_tools
from autogen_agentchat.agents import AssistantAgent
from autogen_ext.models.openai import OpenAIChatCompletionClient

server_params = SseServerParams(
    url="https://edge.vinkius.com/[YOUR_TOKEN_HERE]/mcp"
)

tools = await mcp_server_tools(server_params)

agent = AssistantAgent(
    name="Codecov_assistant",
    model_client=OpenAIChatCompletionClient(model="gpt-4o"),
    tools=tools,
)

result = await agent.run("List recent Codecov data")
print(result.messages[-1].content)

Common questions about Codecov MCP in AutoGen

The agents use the `mcp_server_tools` adapter to invoke functions. They treat these tools as capabilities they can debate and execute during the conversation.
Yes, by calling `list_repository_branches`, your agents can compare the status of different branches. They will argue over which branch is the most stable for deployment.
Your repository coverage reports are processed in an ephemeral sandbox. Only the agents in your current session see the data, and it is wiped afterward.
You pass the tool list into the AssistantAgent constructor. This gives your agents permission to use the tools during their multi-agent deliberations.
The agents are provided the tool schemas automatically via the adapter. They understand how to call `get_repository_coverage_details` correctly based on the provided definitions.
