Coordinate expenses with AutoGen agents

Set up a debate between your agents regarding `create_new_expense` submissions. One agent checks the receipt while another verifies category compliance. This ensures every entry meets your internal standards before it hits the system. You get a consensus-based approval process.

Automate Expensya user management

Use `list_expensya_users` to let your agents audit access levels across the org. They can identify who needs updated permissions for specific reports. This keeps your user list clean. Your agents negotiate changes based on the roles they identify in the directory.

Negotiate project budgets in AutoGen

Let agents analyze `list_analytical_projects` to see where costs are trending. They discuss the data and suggest reallocations if a project hits a limit. This turns your static budget data into a conversation. Your agents push for efficiency while maintaining project visibility.

Setup guide

Set up Expensya MCP in AutoGen

Prerequisites

  • Python 3.10+ installed
  • autogen-ext[mcp] package
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
  1. 1

    Install AutoGen with MCP

    Run pip install "autogen-ext[mcp]" autogen-agentchat. The MCP extension includes mcp_server_tools for stateless tool access.

  2. 2

    Fetch tools from the MCP

    Call mcp_server_tools(SseServerParams(url=...)) with your Vinkius endpoint. Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your token from cloud.vinkius.com.

  3. 3

    Run your agent

    Pass the tools to AssistantAgent and call agent.run(). The agent invokes Expensya tools and returns structured results.

agent.py
from autogen_ext.tools.mcp import SseServerParams, mcp_server_tools
from autogen_agentchat.agents import AssistantAgent
from autogen_ext.models.openai import OpenAIChatCompletionClient

server_params = SseServerParams(
    url="https://edge.vinkius.com/[YOUR_TOKEN_HERE]/mcp"
)

tools = await mcp_server_tools(server_params)

agent = AssistantAgent(
    name="Expensya_assistant",
    model_client=OpenAIChatCompletionClient(model="gpt-4o"),
    tools=tools,
)

result = await agent.run("List recent Expensya data")
print(result.messages[-1].content)

Common questions about Expensya MCP in AutoGen

They use a shared tool adapter. Each agent can call the Expensya server to get the info it needs to make a decision.
That is the point. They can challenge each other's interpretations of expense reports until they reach a solid conclusion.
It supports standard HTTP. This allows your agents to communicate with the server without any extra configuration headaches.
As many as you define. You can have a whole team of agents working together on your financial workflows.
