How to Use the Expensya MCP in Cline
Let Cline write code that interacts directly with your Expensya account, pulling live expense data straight into VS Code.
Works with every AI agent you already use
…and any MCP-compatible client
Connect Expensya MCP to Cline
Create your Vinkius account to connect Expensya to Cline and route execution through our secure gateway. The platform manages server hosting, runtime updates, and security layers. Configuration requires no manual server provisioning.
Build custom expense dashboards inside Cline
The `list_expenses` tool retrieves your complete transaction history directly within your Cline VS Code workspace. Cline reads this raw JSON, writes a local React component, and displays a clean expense dashboard without you writing a line of code. The agent edits your local files and runs tests to ensure the dashboard renders correctly. It uses the live data feed to show active spending, making internal reporting incredibly fast.
Automate tag and category sync with this MCP Server
The `list_expense_categories` tool fetches your active corporate taxonomy to help Cline validate incoming receipts. Cline matches local code structures or database schemas with these live categories to prevent mismatch errors. By using this MCP Server, Cline also checks `list_expense_tags` to ensure your local automation scripts tag expenses correctly. It updates your configuration files and commits the changes directly to your repository.
Generate and format expense exports in VS Code
The `export_expense_data` tool allows Cline to pull raw financial files directly into your active workspace. Cline can then parse this data, write scripts to convert it to custom formats, and store the output in your project directory. You can ask Cline to build a custom parser for these exports. It will write the code, execute it against the exported file, and show you the exact diff before committing.
