Coordinate active incidents inside VS Code Copilot

The FireHydrant MCP Server exposes `list_incidents` to let your engineering team track active outages without switching to a web browser. Every developer can see what is currently broken across the entire platform. When someone finds a fix, they can run `add_incident_note` or `update_incident` directly from Copilot Chat to update the incident state. This makes sure the timeline is accurate without forcing engineers to log into another dashboard.

Inspect service dependencies during a crisis

Finding which downstream service is failing is critical when debugging cascading outages. The `get_service` and `list_services` tools allow Copilot to pull real-time health and dependency data directly into your editor. If you need to escalate the issue, the agent uses `list_teams` and `get_team` to identify which team is currently on call for the failing component. This helps you route the incident to the right responders in seconds.

Run incident playbooks via the MCP Server

Following incident response procedures is easier when your playbooks are right next to your code. The `list_runbooks` tool lets your agent fetch and display active runbooks so you know exactly what steps to take. You can also run `list_change_events` to see if a recent deployment triggered the outage. This gives your team immediate visibility into what changed in production, accelerating the troubleshooting process.

Setup guide

Set up FireHydrant MCP in VS Code Copilot

Prerequisites

  • VS Code 1.99 or later with GitHub Copilot extension
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
  1. 1

    Open MCP configuration

Open the Command Palette (Cmd+Shift+P / Ctrl+Shift+P) and run "MCP: Add Server". Select HTTP (Streamable) as the server type. VS Code will create .vscode/mcp.json in your workspace.

  2. 2

    Add the FireHydrant MCP

Paste the JSON snippet shown on the right into your .vscode/mcp.json. Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your endpoint token from cloud.vinkius.com.

  3. 3

    Switch to Agent mode

Open Copilot Chat (Cmd+Shift+I / Ctrl+Shift+I) and switch to Agent mode using the dropdown. MCP tools are only available in Agent mode — they do not appear in Edit or Ask modes.

  4. 4

    Verify the connection

In the Copilot Chat input, type # to list available tools. You should see the FireHydrant tools listed. Try asking: "List my recent FireHydrant transactions" and Copilot will invoke them automatically.
