Manage Tickets, End-to-End

Connect your OpenAI Agent to Freshservice and it instantly discovers all 12 tools. You can start managing the entire ticket lifecycle without writing a single line of mapping code. Your agent can check the helpdesk status with `check_itsm_status` and then create new incidents using `create_itsm_ticket`. Because the OpenAI Agents SDK handles handoffs, you can build specialized agents. One agent could monitor `list_itsm_tickets` for high-priority issues, then pass the ticket ID to another agent designed to pull details with `get_ticket_details` and `get_requester_details` for escalation.

Track IT Assets with Your Agent

Give your agent the ability to query your entire IT inventory. It can pull a full inventory with `list_it_assets` or dig into specifics for a single piece of hardware using `get_asset_details`. This is how you automate hardware failure reporting. The SDK's built-in guardrails mean you can let an agent work on asset data without worrying it will go rogue. Before it executes `create_itsm_ticket` to report a broken laptop, you get a chance to validate the action. It's safety for production systems.

Your OpenAI Agent as an IT Admin

This isn't just about tickets. Your agent can monitor infrastructure health by watching `list_it_problems` or track upcoming deployments with `list_change_requests`. It becomes a proactive member of your IT team, not just a reactive tool. All actions are traced in the OpenAI dashboard, so you have a full audit log. When your agent uses `list_support_agents` to find the right person for a ticket, you'll see exactly why it made that choice. This MCP Server gives your agent the context it needs to make smart decisions.

Setup guide

Set up Freshservice MCP in OpenAI Agents SDK

Prerequisites

  • Python 3.10+ installed
  • openai-agents package (pip install openai-agents)
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
  1. 1

    Install the SDK

    Run pip install openai-agents to install the OpenAI Agents SDK. The MCP integration is built-in — no extra dependencies needed.

  2. 2

    Connect via SSE transport

    Use MCPServerSse with your Vinkius endpoint URL. Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your token from cloud.vinkius.com. The SDK auto-discovers all Freshservice tools at runtime.

  3. 3

    Create your Agent

    Pass the MCP to Agent(mcp_servers=[server]). The agent receives Freshservice tools as native definitions — JSON schemas resolve automatically.

  4. 4

    Run the agent

    Call Runner.run(agent, prompt) to execute. The agent invokes the appropriate Freshservice tools and returns structured results. Copy the full example on the right to get started.

agent.py
import asyncio
from agents import Agent, Runner
from agents.mcp import MCPServerSse

async def main():
    async with MCPServerSse(
        url="https://edge.vinkius.com/[YOUR_TOKEN_HERE]/mcp"
    ) as server:
        agent = Agent(
            name="Freshservice Agent",
            instructions="You have access to Freshservice tools.",
            mcp_servers=[server],
        )
        result = await Runner.run(agent, "List recent transactions")
        print(result.final_output)

asyncio.run(main())

Common questions about Freshservice MCP in OpenAI Agents SDK

You'll use the `MCPServerStreamableHttp` class. Just pass your Vinkius endpoint URL. The OpenAI Agent constructor takes it in the `mcp_servers` list and all Freshservice tools are discovered automatically.
The SDK doesn't have a direct tool filter. Instead, you control access through your agent's instructions. You tell it which Freshservice operations it's allowed to perform, and the framework's guardrails help enforce those boundaries.
Your agent calls the `create_itsm_ticket` tool with the required details. The SDK's guardrails give you a hook to approve the action before it's sent to the Freshservice API. This is your chance to prevent accidental ticket floods.
For better performance, set `cacheToolsList=True` when you initialize the server connection. This stops the agent from re-fetching the tool list on every run. The actual tool execution speed just depends on the Freshservice API latency.
This server touches ticket, asset, and requester data from your Freshservice instance. Vinkius isolates each server connection in an ephemeral sandbox. Your Vinkius token authenticates you, but the data itself is only passed between your agent and Freshservice during a tool call.
