Swarm your Gerrit MCP Server

One agent is fine, but a swarm is better. You connect this MCP integration to AutoGen, and multiple agents start arguing over your code reviews. A reviewer agent runs `query_changes` to find open work. Then a security agent jumps in. It calls `list_patchsets` to see what changed in the latest revision. They debate the risk level before giving you a final summary. You get consensus, not just raw data.

Automate project audits

Auditing repositories usually takes days. Now you just tell an AutoGen swarm to map the infrastructure. One agent hits `list_projects` while another runs `list_branches` for every repo. They cross-reference the data immediately. If a branch looks stale, they flag it. They check `list_groups` to see who owns the dead code. They do the busywork while you focus on actual engineering.

Track down missing approvals

Stalled merges kill velocity. Your manager agent notices a bottleneck and calls `get_change`. It sees the review is pending. It triggers `list_reviewers` to find the culprits. The agent figures out who is ignoring the request and drafts a precise follow-up message. You just read the output and send it.

Setup guide

Set up Gerrit MCP in AutoGen

Prerequisites

  • Python 3.10+ installed
  • autogen-ext[mcp] package
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
  1. 1

    Install AutoGen with MCP

    Run pip install "autogen-ext[mcp]" autogen-agentchat. The MCP extension includes mcp_server_tools for stateless tool access.

  2. 2

    Fetch tools from the MCP

    Call mcp_server_tools(SseServerParams(url=...)) with your Vinkius endpoint. Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your token from cloud.vinkius.com.

  3. 3

    Run your agent

    Pass the tools to AssistantAgent and call agent.run(). The agent invokes Gerrit tools and returns structured results.

agent.py
from autogen_ext.tools.mcp import SseServerParams, mcp_server_tools
from autogen_agentchat.agents import AssistantAgent
from autogen_ext.models.openai import OpenAIChatCompletionClient

server_params = SseServerParams(
    url="https://edge.vinkius.com/[YOUR_TOKEN_HERE]/mcp"
)

tools = await mcp_server_tools(server_params)

agent = AssistantAgent(
    name="Gerrit_assistant",
    model_client=OpenAIChatCompletionClient(model="gpt-4o"),
    tools=tools,
)

result = await agent.run("List recent Gerrit data")
print(result.messages[-1].content)

Common questions about Gerrit MCP in AutoGen

Install the `autogen-ext[mcp]` package. Fetch the tools via `mcp_server_tools` and pass them straight to your `AssistantAgent`.
Yes. The agents run `list_projects` and `get_project` to fetch repository metadata during their conversations.
They do. If one agent runs `get_change`, the resulting JSON is visible in the shared context for the other agents to analyze.
You control the prompts. Tell the agent to only use `list_branches` for a specific project ID, and it follows those constraints.
You provide a single endpoint token. The server reads internal commit histories and account emails, but it runs entirely in a Vinkius V8 isolate.
