Automate Credential Management as a Team

Use `create_enrollment_invitation` to let Copilot handle mobile credential provisioning. Since you configure the MCP server in `.vscode/mcp.json` and commit it, your whole team gets access to the same tools instantly. A developer can now ask Copilot to "draft a script to onboard a new user," and it will use `list_identity_users` to find them and `create_enrollment_invitation` to send the invite. It's a shared, repeatable workflow for your entire engineering org.

Run Security Audits from VS Code

The `get_audit_log_events` tool lets anyone on your team query the HID Origo security log. There's no need to give everyone admin access to the web portal just so they can check something. Ask Copilot to "find all failed login attempts from the last 24 hours" and it will call the tool and give you the raw data. This is great for DevOps teams building internal security tooling or for developers troubleshooting access issues.

Map Access Policies with your MCP Server

The `list_identity_groups` and `list_access_readers` tools give Copilot full context on your physical security setup. You can ask it to generate documentation or a configuration map showing which groups have access to which doors. This is about more than just getting a list. You can have Copilot write tests that assert certain users from `get_user_details` should or should not be in a specific access group. It turns your HID Origo config into something you can validate with code.

Setup guide

Set up HID Origo MCP in VS Code Copilot

Prerequisites

  • VS Code 1.99 or later with GitHub Copilot extension
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
  1. 1

    Open MCP configuration

Open the Command Palette (Cmd+Shift+P / Ctrl+Shift+P) and run "MCP: Add Server". Select HTTP (Streamable) as the server type. VS Code will create .vscode/mcp.json in your workspace.

  2. 2

    Add the HID Origo MCP

Paste the JSON snippet shown on the right into your .vscode/mcp.json. Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your endpoint token from cloud.vinkius.com.

  3. 3

    Switch to Agent mode

Open Copilot Chat (Cmd+Shift+I / Ctrl+Shift+I) and switch to Agent mode using the dropdown. MCP tools are only available in Agent mode — they do not appear in Edit or Ask modes.

  4. 4

    Verify the connection

In the Copilot Chat input, type # to list available tools. You should see the HID Origo tools listed. Try asking: "List my recent HID Origo transactions" and Copilot will invoke them automatically.
