Automate Room Management via LangChain

Construct complex workflows where your agent handles room lifecycle events. You can use `create_room` to provision workspaces and immediately follow up with `set_room_state` to define room permissions or topics. This MCP Server lets you chain these actions so the agent sets up a room, invites users, and then confirms the status. You keep total control over the sequence of events within your execution chain.

Secure Messaging Chains for Matrix/Element

Pipe your data directly into chat channels by linking tool outputs to the `send_message` function. If your chain generates a report or a status update, the agent sends it to the correct room without manual intervention. Everything happens in one flow. You define the logic, and the agent uses `sync_client` to ensure the message delivery aligns with the current state of your Matrix/Element account.

Stateful Interaction for MCP Server Workflows

Maintain context across long-running operations by using the MCP Server to pull real-time account data. Your agent can call `get_room_state` to check for new messages or changes in room membership before deciding the next step. This keeps your LangChain agents informed. By relying on current data from the homeserver, the agent avoids stale responses and reacts to actual events as they happen.

Setup guide

Set up Matrix/Element MCP in LangChain

Prerequisites

  • Python 3.10+ installed
  • langchain-mcp-adapters + langgraph packages
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
  1. 1

    Install dependencies

    Run pip install langchain-mcp-adapters langgraph langchain-openai. The MCP adapters package converts MCP tools into native LangChain BaseTool objects.

  2. 2

    Connect via HTTP transport

    Use MultiServerMCPClient with "transport": "http" pointing to your Vinkius endpoint. Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your token from cloud.vinkius.com.

  3. 3

    Create a ReAct agent

    Pass the discovered tools to create_react_agent() from LangGraph. The agent automatically routes Matrix/Element tool calls through the MCP protocol.

  4. 4

    Run with any LLM

    Swap ChatOpenAI for ChatAnthropic, ChatGoogleGenerativeAI, or any LangChain-compatible model. The MCP tools work identically across all providers.

agent.py
from langchain_mcp_adapters.client import MultiServerMCPClient
from langgraph.prebuilt import create_react_agent
from langchain_openai import ChatOpenAI

async with MultiServerMCPClient({
    "matrixelement-mcp": {
        "transport": "http",
        "url": "https://edge.vinkius.com/[YOUR_TOKEN_HERE]/mcp",
    }
}) as client:
    tools = client.get_tools()

    agent = create_react_agent(
        ChatOpenAI(model="gpt-4o"),
        tools,
    )
    result = await agent.ainvoke({
        "messages": "List recent Matrix/Element transactions"
    })
    print(result["messages"][-1].content)

Common questions about Matrix/Element MCP in LangChain

Install the necessary adapters and initialize the client using the server URL. You then fetch the tools and register them with your agent to start executing commands.
Yes, you pass the tools directly into the agent configuration. The agent will then decide when to call functions like `join_room` based on the graph logic you defined.
The client handles multiple connections if you configure them in your LangChain setup. You can manage different homeservers from one agent instance easily.
Since you are using LangChain, you can hook into LangSmith. This provides full observability into every `send_message` or `sync_client` call your agent makes.
The server acts as a pass-through for your requests. It touches your messages and room metadata only when the agent specifically invokes a tool, keeping your credentials local.
