Debate drafts using AutoGen agents

One agent proposes a draft using `create_draft` while another critiques the logic. They iterate until they reach a consensus before finalizing the post. This prevents low-quality content from reaching your publication. Your AutoGen setup ensures every post undergoes internal scrutiny before the final `create_post` command.

Manage publications via AutoGen

Your agents use `list_my_publications` to decide where a specific topic fits best. They negotiate the destination based on publication tags and contributor rules. This removes the guesswork from your publishing schedule. The agents reach a decision on the optimal publication and then execute the appropriate tool call.

Authenticate AutoGen agents on Medium

The `get_my_user_id` tool allows your AutoGen agents to verify their identity. They confirm they have the necessary rights before attempting to create public posts. This keeps your account activity consistent. Your agents use this data to ensure they are interacting with the correct user profile throughout the entire debate process.

Setup guide

Set up Medium MCP in AutoGen

Prerequisites

  • Python 3.10+ installed
  • autogen-ext[mcp] package
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
  1. 1

    Install AutoGen with MCP

    Run pip install "autogen-ext[mcp]" autogen-agentchat. The MCP extension includes mcp_server_tools for stateless tool access.

  2. 2

    Fetch tools from the MCP

    Call mcp_server_tools(SseServerParams(url=...)) with your Vinkius endpoint. Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your token from cloud.vinkius.com.

  3. 3

    Run your agent

    Pass the tools to AssistantAgent and call agent.run(). The agent invokes Medium tools and returns structured results.

agent.py
from autogen_ext.tools.mcp import SseServerParams, mcp_server_tools
from autogen_agentchat.agents import AssistantAgent
from autogen_ext.models.openai import OpenAIChatCompletionClient

server_params = SseServerParams(
    url="https://edge.vinkius.com/[YOUR_TOKEN_HERE]/mcp"
)

tools = await mcp_server_tools(server_params)

agent = AssistantAgent(
    name="Medium_assistant",
    model_client=OpenAIChatCompletionClient(model="gpt-4o"),
    tools=tools,
)

result = await agent.run("List recent Medium data")
print(result.messages[-1].content)

Common questions about Medium MCP in AutoGen

Yes, you can assign one agent to analyze publication requirements and another to suggest topics. They negotiate until they agree on the best target.
You pass the server URL to the AutoGen tool adapter. It automatically converts the Medium API tools into functions your agents can call.
It is designed for this. You can have a security agent check the content while a publishing agent handles the `create_publication_post` call.
The agents discuss the tool output. If `list_contributors` returns an error, they adjust their strategy and try a different publication.
The server only reads your ID and profile information to authorize the agents. This sensitive data stays within the secure sandbox used by your AutoGen session.
