Headless draft staging from Claude Code

The `create_draft` tool lets Claude Code push raw terminal output or local markdown files directly to your Medium drafts. SREs and backend devs can pipe terminal build logs or release notes straight into a staged Medium post using Claude Code. Since Claude Code runs entirely in the shell, you can chain this tool with git hooks or CI/CD scripts to upload to Medium. Stage your technical documentation on the Medium platform the moment your code passes terminal tests in Claude Code.

Medium publication management with Claude Code MCP Server

The `list_publications` tool retrieves Medium publication IDs for any user, enabling automated routing in your Claude Code shell scripts. Claude Code queries the Medium API, finds the target publication, and prepares the deployment. This headless approach allows you to automate Medium newsletter distributions or engineering blog updates using Claude Code. You can run `create_publication_post` directly from a Claude Code terminal prompt without opening a Medium browser window.

Quick profile verification in Claude Code

The `get_my_user_id` tool fetches your unique Medium author ID to validate your active Claude Code terminal session. Claude Code runs this check to ensure your terminal scripts target the correct Medium author account. This step prevents Medium deployment scripts from failing due to expired integration tokens in Claude Code. Claude Code verifies your Medium ID, confirms your active session, and proceeds with your automated publishing pipeline.

Yes, the MCP Server lets you use `list_my_publications` and `list_contributors` to inspect your Medium publication structures directly in Claude Code. Claude Code can then execute `create_publication_post` to publish under those Medium publications.
The current Medium API endpoints focus on text content, so Claude Code handles images by referencing external URLs in the post body. You should host your assets externally before running `create_draft` via Claude Code to Medium.
Yes, you can run the Medium server headlessly by passing your integration token as an environment variable in your Claude Code CI/CD pipeline. Claude Code will execute the Medium publishing tools during your build steps.
Your Medium integration tokens are stored locally in your `~/.claude.json` file. The MCP Server uses standard environment variables to authenticate requests directly from Claude Code with the Medium platform, keeping your credentials off public servers.
