Audit Assets via Mux MCP Server

The cost agent runs `list_assets` via the Mux MCP Server to audit your video storage. It cross-checks engagement using `get_recent_views` to identify dead files. This agent proposes running `delete_asset` if a file shows zero traffic. A separate content agent reviews the metadata, argues to keep the video if it belongs to a critical campaign, and they reach a consensus before executing anything.

Coordinate Live Broadcasts

An AutoGen agent executes `create_live_stream` to provision the ingest URL exactly when the production team needs it. Setting up an event requires exact timing, and autonomous execution prevents human delays. A secondary monitoring agent periodically checks the stream health with `get_live_stream`. If the event concludes, it signals the primary agent to fire `delete_live_stream`, closing the endpoint.

Process Direct Uploads

Your system uses `create_direct_upload` to generate signed URLs for client-side transfers. Handling user uploads involves multiple moving parts, and delegating this to an agent simplifies your backend. An agent runs `list_direct_uploads` to confirm receipt once the user pushes the file. A separate notification agent waits for the encoding to finish by polling `get_asset`, then alerts your frontend.

Setup guide

Set up Mux MCP in AutoGen

Prerequisites

  • Python 3.10+ installed
  • autogen-ext[mcp] package
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
  1. 1

    Install AutoGen with MCP

    Run pip install "autogen-ext[mcp]" autogen-agentchat. The MCP extension includes mcp_server_tools for stateless tool access.

  2. 2

    Fetch tools from the MCP

    Call mcp_server_tools(SseServerParams(url=...)) with your Vinkius endpoint. Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your token from cloud.vinkius.com.

  3. 3

    Run your agent

    Pass the tools to AssistantAgent and call agent.run(). The agent invokes Mux tools and returns structured results.

agent.py
from autogen_ext.tools.mcp import SseServerParams, mcp_server_tools
from autogen_agentchat.agents import AssistantAgent
from autogen_ext.models.openai import OpenAIChatCompletionClient

server_params = SseServerParams(
    url="https://edge.vinkius.com/[YOUR_TOKEN_HERE]/mcp"
)

tools = await mcp_server_tools(server_params)

agent = AssistantAgent(
    name="Mux_assistant",
    model_client=OpenAIChatCompletionClient(model="gpt-4o"),
    tools=tools,
)

result = await agent.run("List recent Mux data")
print(result.messages[-1].content)

Common questions about Mux MCP in AutoGen

Use the server tools function with your configured MCP endpoint URL. The adapter automatically converts the JSON schema into a format your assistant agent understands.
Yes. You inject the tool list into the constructor of any agent that needs video access. They all route requests through the same connection.
You restrict the tool list. Only provide deletion access to a highly privileged agent, and require a human-in-the-loop approval step before it executes.
Agents can poll the analytics endpoints at set intervals. They analyze the incoming data and trigger alerts if the viewer count drops suddenly.
Your broadcast credentials stay isolated to your local execution environment. Vinkius provides a zero-trust transport layer, meaning sensitive data never touches our storage disks.
