Manage live streams from your terminal

`create_live_stream` spins up a new live broadcast endpoint using a single terminal command. Claude Code executes the tool and prints the RTMP URL and stream key directly to your standard output. When the event ends, run `delete_live_stream` to tear down the infrastructure. You can pipe these outputs into other shell utilities or save them to local configuration files without opening a browser.

Inspect asset metadata using this MCP Server

The `get_asset` tool fetches detailed technical specs for any video file in your account. Claude Code parses the resolution, aspect ratio, and encoding status, printing them as clean terminal output. You can combine this with `list_assets` to filter and audit your entire media library. This headless approach lets you script bulk audits and check for encoding errors across hundreds of assets.

Track video performance via CLI analytics

`get_recent_views` retrieves raw audience metrics directly to your shell. Claude Code pulls the latest view counts and delivery performance data without requiring an external dashboard. This makes it easy to write cron jobs or CI scripts that monitor stream health. You can parse the JSON payload and trigger alerts if views drop or playback errors spike.

Common questions about Mux MCP in Claude Code

Run `claude mcp add --transport http mux-mcp -- ` in your terminal. Make sure all flags come before the server name, and verify the installation using the list command.
Yes, you can instruct Claude Code to loop through a list of IDs and execute `delete_asset` over the MCP link. This lets you clean up old staging videos from the command line.
Claude Code uses `create_direct_upload` to generate an authenticated upload endpoint. It outputs the URL so you can curl your video file directly from your terminal.
Use `list_live_streams` to get a complete list of your active and idle streams. Claude Code displays the status, stream keys, and playback IDs in a clean terminal list.
Your API tokens are stored locally in your ~/.claude.json configuration file. The server processes requests locally on your machine, meaning your video management tokens are never exposed to external cloud relays.
