How to Use the Neon MCP in Claude Code
Manage serverless Postgres environments straight from the terminal. Let Claude Code provision branches and endpoints in your CI/CD pipeline.
Works with every AI agent you already use
…and any MCP-compatible client
Connect Neon MCP to Claude Code
Create your Vinkius account to connect Neon to Claude Code and route execution through our secure gateway. The platform manages server hosting, runtime updates, and security layers. Configuration requires no manual server provisioning.
Ephemeral DBs for CI/CD pipelines
The Neon MCP Server provides terminal-based agents with `create_branch` to build zero-copy Postgres environments for automated testing. Claude Code intercepts a deployment trigger, spins up an exact replica of production data, and runs your integration tests against it in seconds. You get realistic test runs without touching live data or waiting for massive SQL dumps to restore. After the test suite passes, the agent runs `delete_branch` to tear down the temporary infrastructure, keeping your resource usage strictly bounded.
Headless workspace initialization
Bootstrapping a new microservice backend happens via `create_project` directly from your shell environment. You tell the CLI to provision a cluster in a specific AWS region, and it handles the database creation, default branching, and compute allocation automatically. Security provisioning is equally scriptable. Claude Code executes `create_role` to generate unique passwords for your application services, then pulls the details using `get_connection_uri` to inject them into your deployment manifests.
Infrastructure auditing via MCP
Auditing your database footprint requires nothing more than asking your CLI to execute `list_projects` and `list_endpoints`. The agent maps out every active read-write node, idle compute instance, and suspended branch across your entire organization. This visibility allows for aggressive cleanup of abandoned resources. If developers leave zombie environments running, you can instruct the agent to run `delete_project` or prune specific branches to enforce strict lifecycle management.
Set up Neon MCP in Claude Code
Prerequisites
- Claude Code CLI installed (
npm install -g @anthropic-ai/claude-code) - Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
- 1
Run the add command
Open your terminal and run the command shown on the right. Replace
[YOUR_TOKEN_HERE]with your endpoint token from cloud.vinkius.com. Use--scope userto make it available across all projects. - 2
Verify the connection
Start a Claude Code session and type
/mcpto list connected servers. You should seeneon-mcpwith a green status indicator. - 3
Start using tools
Ask Claude Code something like "Check my latest Neon transactions." It will automatically discover and invoke the available Neon tools.
