Retrieving Real-Time Traffic Insights via MCP Server

Your agent uses `get_traffic_flow_segment` to check the current speed and quality for any specified road segment. Furthermore, it can call `get_traffic_incidents`, passing a min/max bounding box to pull incident reports. If you need general routing information, running `calculate_route` provides both the polyline path and a travel time estimate.

Advanced Address Matching with Google ADK

Need coordinates from an address? The agent handles this in two ways. It can use `fuzzy_geocoding` to correct slightly misspelled or vague addresses into proper coordinates. For maximum structure, it uses `structured_geocoding`, requiring explicit components like zip codes and country codes. It also supports finding nearby places using `search_poi_by_category` near a specific coordinate.

Interacting with the TomTom MCP Server

The agent can pull rich details about any location by calling `get_poi_details`, which takes an ID and returns metadata. Plus, if you just have coordinates, the agent uses `reverse_geocoding` to figure out what physical address is at that spot. It also provides predictive text suggestions via `autocomplete_place_search` using a partial string.

Setup guide

Set up TomTom MCP in Google ADK

Prerequisites

  • Python 3.10+ installed
  • google-adk package (pip install google-adk)
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
  1. 1

    Install Google ADK

    Run pip install google-adk to install the Agent Development Kit. MCP support is included via the McpToolset class.

  2. 2

    Connect via SSE transport

    Use McpToolset.from_server() with SseServerParams pointing to your Vinkius endpoint. Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your token from cloud.vinkius.com.

  3. 3

    Create an LlmAgent

    Pass the returned mcp_tools list directly to LlmAgent(tools=mcp_tools). The ADK maps each MCP tool to a native Gemini function call — no manual schema definitions required.

  4. 4

    Run with any Gemini model

    The agent works with any Gemini model (gemini-2.0-flash, gemini-2.5-pro, etc.). Copy the full example on the right to get started with TomTom tools in your ADK agent.

agent.py
from google.adk.agents import LlmAgent
from google.adk.tools.mcp_tool.mcp_toolset import McpToolset
from google.adk.tools.mcp_tool.mcp_session_manager import SseServerParams

# Connect to the MCP via SSE
mcp_tools, exit_stack = await McpToolset.from_server(
    connection_params=SseServerParams(
        url="https://edge.vinkius.com/[YOUR_TOKEN_HERE]/mcp"
    )
)

# Create your agent with auto-discovered tools
agent = LlmAgent(
    name="TomTom_agent",
    model="gemini-2.0-flash",
    instruction="You have access to TomTom tools via MCP.",
    tools=mcp_tools,
)

Common questions about TomTom MCP in Google ADK

The Google ADK allows your agent to execute the MCP Server's location tools directly. This means it can use `reverse_geocoding` to convert coordinates back into human-readable addresses.
You should use the `structured_geocoding` tool. It requires specific parameters like country codes or postal codes, ensuring your agent gets a highly accurate result.
Yes. Your agent calls `get_traffic_flow_segment` by providing center coordinates. This immediately gives you the current speed and quality of that section of road.
Since Google ADK integrates with BigQuery, it’s built for enterprise agents. You can pass location results—like POI lists from `search_poi_by_category`—to be analyzed alongside your existing cloud data.
The server handles coordinates, physical addresses, and specific geographic bounding boxes. These are the primary types of location identifiers you'll work with in your Google ADK workflow.
