Initialize LiveKit Real-Time Rooms from Code

Need to simulate a session for testing? Use `create_room` in your agent mode. This tool generates the access tokens necessary, allowing you to build code that assumes live participants can join based on those credentials. You'll get clean, actionable results directly into your file.

Control Session State and Participants

Your agent needs to verify who is in the room? Call `list_participants` or `get_participant` to pull live data structures. If a user leaves, you can write code that calls `remove_participant`, which correctly simulates token revocation for testing purposes.

Broadcast Live Data into Working Code

Use `send_data` in your agent to broadcast test messages—specify 'reliable' or 'lossy'—and have that data appear as a variable assignment in the code you’re writing. This lets you build real-world logic without needing mock stubs.

Common questions about LiveKit Real-Time Rooms MCP in Cursor

You can list active rooms by calling `list_rooms`. This provides a clear overview of all sessions running on the server, which is perfect for writing code that handles multiple endpoints.
Yes. You use `update_room_metadata` to write structured JSON data directly into the room's context, letting your code read those specific keys later on.
You call `remove_participant`. The agent will simulate the full process: confirming the user's identity, calling the tool, and ensuring your subsequent code handles the token revocation event.
You add it to `.cursor/mcp.json` in your project root or globally at `~/.cursor/mcp.json`. Then, you enable Agent mode in chat.
The server handles communication context, specifically participant metadata and structured session data that gets written to the room via JSON strings.
