Provisioning Cloud Resources

Write infrastructure setup right in your function. Use `create_server` to provision a new machine instance, and then use `list_hosts` or `get_host` to confirm it's up and running. You can also build entire networks. Calling `create_network` sets up the SDN private network that holds all your resources together.

Database and Compute Management

Need a database connection? The agent handles it with `list_databases` to see options, then you call `create_database`. If you need Kubernetes, run `create_kubernetes_cluster` to spin up the managed cluster. It’s straightforward. Use `get_kubernetes_kubeconfig` when you're done creating so your code has the right credentials.

Networking and Load Balancing

When you deploy an app, it needs to be accessible. Call `create_load_balancer` to set up a service entry point. You can also use `list_load_balancers` before deploying. For IP management, check available IPs with `list_ips`, and then reserve one using `assign_ip`. This keeps your code context accurate.

Setup guide

Set up UpCloud MCP in Cursor

Prerequisites

  • Cursor installed (macOS, Windows, or Linux)
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
  1. 1

    Open MCP Settings

Go to Cursor Settings → MCP or open the Command Palette (Cmd+Shift+P / Ctrl+Shift+P) and search for "MCP: Add Server".

  2. 2

    Add the UpCloud MCP

Cursor will create or open .cursor/mcp.json in your project root. Paste the JSON snippet on the right. Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your endpoint token from cloud.vinkius.com.

  3. 3

    Enable Agent mode

Open Composer (Cmd+I / Ctrl+I) and switch to Agent mode using the dropdown at the top. MCP tools are only available in Agent mode.

  4. 4

    Verify the connection

Ask Cursor something like "List my recent UpCloud transactions." If the MCP tools are loaded correctly, Cursor will call the UpCloud tools automatically. You can also check Settings → MCP for a green status indicator.

Common questions about UpCloud MCP in Cursor

Just call the `get_billing_summary` tool. The live API response gets injected directly into your code block, so you don't have to switch context or use mock stubs.
Yes, run `list_servers` to see all running servers. If you need details on one machine, the agent uses `get_server` to pull up the full info.
Use `list_audit_logs` first. This shows a list of recent actions. For permanent records, run `export_audit_logs` to get the full data set.
The agent mode lets your code interact with tools that can hit local services or endpoints. You can test your API logic against resources running on `localhost` without deploying them first.
This server handles account audit logs and billing summaries. The agent reads this sensitive operational data so you can write code that properly manages these resources.
