System Lifecycle Management

Managing your cloud stack is simple. Use `list_servers` to see every server you own, then call `get_server` for detailed specs. If a machine is down, run `start_server`. Need it off? Call `stop_server`. If the config needs tweaking, use `update_server` to modify its settings directly from your Copilot chat.

Storage and Data Management

The server handles storage with multiple tools. Start by running `list_storages` to see available buckets. To save a copy, use `backup_storage`, then restore it later with `restore_storage`. Developers also use `create_object_storage` to spin up new services and `import_storage` to populate them.

Network Architecture Setup

Building connectivity is handled by specific tools. Run `list_networks` to view existing SDN private networks. Then, you can deploy a brand new one using `create_network`. For IP management, use `list_ips` and then grab an address with `assign_ip`. This ensures your services have unique IPs.

Setup guide

Set up UpCloud MCP in VS Code Copilot

Prerequisites

  • VS Code 1.99 or later with GitHub Copilot extension
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
  1. 1

    Open MCP configuration

    Open the Command Palette (Cmd+Shift+P / Ctrl+Shift+P) and run "MCP: Add Server". Select HTTP (Streamable) as the server type. VS Code will create .vscode/mcp.json in your workspace.

  2. 2

    Add the UpCloud MCP

    Paste the JSON snippet shown on the right into your .vscode/mcp.json. Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your endpoint token from cloud.vinkius.com.

  3. 3

    Switch to Agent mode

    Open Copilot Chat (Cmd+Shift+I / Ctrl+Shift+I) and switch to Agent mode using the dropdown. MCP tools are only available in Agent mode — they do not appear in Edit or Ask modes.

  4. 4

    Verify the connection

    In the Copilot Chat input, type # to list available tools. You should see the UpCloud tools listed. Try asking: "List my recent UpCloud transactions" and Copilot will invoke them automatically.

  "mcpServers": {
    "upcloud-mcp": {
      "url": "https://edge.vinkius.com/[YOUR_TOKEN_HERE]/mcp"

}

Common questions about UpCloud MCP in VS Code Copilot

Just use the `get_billing_summary` tool. It pulls up your monthly costs directly into the chat window, letting you review spending without leaving VS Code.
Yeah, run `list_servers` to see all active servers. If you need deep diagnostics on one machine, the agent calls `get_server` for the full report.
Start by calling `list_audit_logs`. This gives you a list of actions. For a complete history, run `export_audit_logs`.
It controls everything from creating databases (`create_database`) to setting up load balancers (`create_load_balancer`), and managing entire Kubernetes clusters with `list_kubernetes_clusters`.
This server accesses account audit logs and billing summaries. The tools allow you to monitor resource usage and activity, keeping track of who did what with the underlying infrastructure.
