Build billing dashboard components with the MCP Server.

Cline lets you write a component that calls `get_billing_summaries`. You pass the API key, specify the meter ID, and it returns cost totals and billing periods. This is perfect for generating reports showing quarterly spending trends without manual data handling.

Code full-cycle usage reporting pipelines.

You can write a script that first uses `list_meters` to get all service points, then iterates through them. For each meter, the component calls `get_intervals` for detailed time-series data. Cline handles the complex loop and structures the output into clean JSON objects.

Set up robust authorization tracking in code.

When a user hits your site, you want to track access. Use `list_authorizations` to pull all granted permissions by referral code. Cline’s strength is letting you immediately write the database schema and API endpoints required to store this metadata.

Common questions about UtilityAPI MCP in Cline

The best way is to use `get_meter_data`. This single call pulls both the financial bill history and the granular usage intervals for a specific meter UID. It saves you from having two separate API calls in your code.
Use `list_utilities` first to validate all supported codes (like PG&E or SCE). Then, build a switch statement in your code that uses these validated codes when calling `create_auth_form`.
Absolutely. Use `test_form_submission`. It returns a referral code and allows you to verify your frontend form submissions work correctly before deployment. You can then use this code in other functions.
For any usage retrieval—whether it's `get_intervals` or `get_bills`—you absolutely must pass the correct meter UID. You get this list using `list_meters`.
The server touches billing account summaries and usage interval data (kWh or therms). Always ensure your component is passing authorization IDs, not raw customer names, to maintain compliance.
