Search historical venue details semantically.

The `get_event_details` tool provides immediate API data, but LlamaIndex lets you INDEX that output into your vector store. You can then query past configurations—say, 'What was the layout for last year's annual meeting?' and get an answer grounded in the actual API response. This makes it perfect for building knowledge bases around venue management. Instead of just calling `list_events`, you search through the historical *context* of those events.

Retrieve speaker information from archives.

When you use `create_speaker`, the result (the new speaker's record) gets indexed. Later, if a user asks about 'that keynote speaker from 2023,' LlamaIndex can retrieve that answer without needing to re-query the live API via `list_speakers`. The tool output becomes part of your searchable knowledge base, combining structured data with unstructured documents.

Answer questions using event attendance records.

Calling `list_event_registrations` gives you a list of people. LlamaIndex indexes this roster data. Now, if the user asks 'Who attended the finance summit in May?', your application queries the index and gets an answer that cites the specific record, not just a count. This RAG setup means you combine live API calls with historical context for accurate answers.

Setup guide

Set up Venue MCP in LlamaIndex

Prerequisites

  • Python 3.10+ installed
  • llama-index-tools-mcp package
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
  1. 1

    Install dependencies

    Run pip install llama-index-tools-mcp llama-index-llms-openai. The MCP tools package provides BasicMCPClient and McpToolSpec.

  2. 2

    Connect with BasicMCPClient

    Point BasicMCPClient to your Vinkius endpoint URL. Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your token from cloud.vinkius.com. Supports SSE and Streamable HTTP transports.

  3. 3

    Convert to LlamaIndex tools

    Call mcp_tool_spec.to_tool_list_async() to convert all Venue MCP tools into native FunctionTool objects that any LlamaIndex agent can use.

  4. 4

    Run with any LLM

    Create a FunctionAgent with the tools and your preferred LLM. Swap OpenAI for Anthropic, Gemini, or any LlamaIndex-supported provider.

agent.py
from llama_index.tools.mcp import BasicMCPClient, McpToolSpec
from llama_index.core.agent.workflow import FunctionAgent
from llama_index.llms.openai import OpenAI

# Connect to the MCP
mcp_client = BasicMCPClient(
    "https://edge.vinkius.com/[YOUR_TOKEN_HERE]/mcp"
)
mcp_tool_spec = McpToolSpec(client=mcp_client)

# Convert MCP tools to LlamaIndex tools
tools = await mcp_tool_spec.to_tool_list_async()

# Create and run the agent
agent = FunctionAgent(
    tools=tools,
    llm=OpenAI(model="gpt-4o"),
    system_prompt="You have access to Venue tools.",
)
response = await agent.run("List recent Venue data")

Common questions about Venue MCP in LlamaIndex

You can call `list_event_registrations` and feed the resulting attendee list into your index. This allows you to query past attendance records semantically, answering questions about who was there without real-time API calls.
If `get_event_details` provides capacity metrics, LlamaIndex indexes those numbers. You can then query the index months later: 'What was the max capacity for Event X?' and get a grounded answer.
When you call `list_events`, the list output is treated as knowledge. You can then query your index: 'List all events that happened in Q2' and get a comprehensive, searchable history.
Yes. Use `list_speakers` to fetch the current roster, then feed those names into your index. You can build a knowledge graph that links speakers to specific events they participated in.
You use `get_me` to get the current user's profile data. This structured output is then indexed, allowing your application to recall user-specific permissions or details from past sessions.
