LangChain: Order Lifecycle Chains

You can build complex, multi-stage reasoning chains. For instance, an agent first uses `search_orders` to find a package, then passes the resulting order ID directly into `get_tracking_info` for real-time updates. This works because every tool call is just another link in the chain. The output from one function becomes the exact input for the next, letting your agent figure out the optimal sequence of actions.

Multi-Server MCP Client with LangChain

The LangChain client handles aggregating tools, which means you can mix and match VTEX orders data with other services—like a database or another API—all in the same workflow. This is huge. You don't have to write separate code blocks for every step; you just define the goal, and the agent figures out if it needs `cancel_order` before calling `update_order_status`, for example.

Managing Order Status with LangChain

Need to automate fulfillment? Your AI client uses `search_orders` to filter for orders that hit a specific status, like 'ready-for-handling.' Once filtered, the agent can then use `update_order_status` on those records. It's reliable because you aren't just running one function; you're building a defined process where the system checks the state and acts accordingly.

Setup guide

Set up VTEX Orders MCP in LangChain

Prerequisites

  • Python 3.10+ installed
  • langchain-mcp-adapters + langgraph packages
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
  1. 1

    Install dependencies

    Run pip install langchain-mcp-adapters langgraph langchain-openai. The MCP adapters package converts MCP tools into native LangChain BaseTool objects.

  2. 2

    Connect via HTTP transport

    Use MultiServerMCPClient with "transport": "http" pointing to your Vinkius endpoint. Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your token from cloud.vinkius.com.

  3. 3

    Create a ReAct agent

    Pass the discovered tools to create_react_agent() from LangGraph. The agent automatically routes VTEX Orders tool calls through the MCP protocol.

  4. 4

    Run with any LLM

    Swap ChatOpenAI for ChatAnthropic, ChatGoogleGenerativeAI, or any LangChain-compatible model. The MCP tools work identically across all providers.

agent.py
from langchain_mcp_adapters.client import MultiServerMCPClient
from langgraph.prebuilt import create_react_agent
from langchain_openai import ChatOpenAI

async with MultiServerMCPClient({
    "vtex-orders-mcp": {
        "transport": "http",
        "url": "https://edge.vinkius.com/[YOUR_TOKEN_HERE]/mcp",
    }
}) as client:
    tools = client.get_tools()

    agent = create_react_agent(
        ChatOpenAI(model="gpt-4o"),
        tools,
    )
    result = await agent.ainvoke({
        "messages": "List recent VTEX Orders transactions"
    })
    print(result["messages"][-1].content)

Common questions about VTEX Orders MCP in LangChain

You use the `search_orders` tool. You can filter by status or use pagination to grab batches of orders, letting your agent know exactly what data is available.
Yes. Your agent calls `get_tracking_info` for each order ID you provide. The chain processes these individual results and aggregates them into one clean report for you.
The system uses the `cancel_order` tool directly. You just point the agent at a list of order IDs, and it executes the cancellation in sequence, giving you clear confirmations for each one.
The server touches order details, which includes status updates, tracking numbers, and invoice records. This is all managed through the various tools.
Because it's a chain, you get full observability via LangSmith tracing. You can see exactly which tool called `get_order` failed or succeeded, and why the agent decided to run that specific function next.
