Creating and Publishing Draft Content

Team members can use `create_cms_entry` to generate new drafts by supplying the model name and field data as JSON. This ensures every developer writes content using the same, structured input. Once review is complete, run `publish_cms_entry`. This takes the revision ID and makes the content available globally via the 'read' API endpoint for the whole team.

Querying Webiny CMS Data Directly

Copilot Chat lets you execute raw GraphQL queries using `execute_graphql_query`. You specify whether it’s a 'manage', 'read', or 'preview' action and the locale. This capability gives the whole team direct API access. Furthermore, if you need to see all available content for a model, use `list_model_entries` with the plural name and desired api_type.

Updating or Deleting Content Revisions

Need to correct field data? Use `update_cms_entry`. Pass the entry ID and a JSON object containing only the fields that need updating. It's precise, minimizing risk across your codebase. If an entry is completely obsolete, run `delete_cms_entry` for permanent removal of that specific content revision.

Setup guide

Set up Webiny CMS MCP in VS Code Copilot

Prerequisites

  • VS Code 1.99 or later with GitHub Copilot extension
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
  1. 1

    Open MCP configuration

Open the Command Palette (Cmd+Shift+P / Ctrl+Shift+P) and run "MCP: Add Server". Select HTTP (Streamable) as the server type. VS Code will create .vscode/mcp.json in your workspace.

  2. 2

    Add the Webiny CMS MCP

Paste the JSON snippet shown on the right into your .vscode/mcp.json. Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your endpoint token from cloud.vinkius.com.

  3. 3

    Switch to Agent mode

Open Copilot Chat (Cmd+Shift+I / Ctrl+Shift+I) and switch to Agent mode using the dropdown. MCP tools are only available in Agent mode — they do not appear in Edit or Ask modes.

  4. 4

    Verify the connection

In the Copilot Chat input, type # to list available tools. You should see the Webiny CMS tools listed. Try asking: "List my recent Webiny CMS transactions" and Copilot will invoke them automatically.

Common questions about Webiny CMS MCP in VS Code Copilot

You call `get_tenant_config`. This function fetches all the high-level operational settings for your entire Webiny tenant, which is useful when setting up environment variables shared across the team.
Yes. Use `list_model_entries`. You must provide the plural model name (like 'Articles') and specify if you are looking for drafts ('manage') or live published data ('read').
The `update_cms_entry` tool modifies specific fields of an existing content model entry revision. It accepts the entry ID and a JSON object detailing only the required field changes.
Use `get_model_entry_details`. Simply provide the revision ID, and the tool pulls all associated data points from that specific version of the content model entry.
The server handles Content Model Entry revisions. The `delete_cms_entry` action permanently removes a specified revision ID, making the deletion irreversible across your Webiny CMS setup.
