Debate access control risks.

Running a decision engine requires input from various perspectives. Use `list_app_connections` to gather all configured endpoints. An agent designed for security can then flag high-risk connections, while another pushes for necessary performance improvements. The negotiation between these agents converges on the safest and most efficient set of credentials required.

Optimize workflow based on failures.

When a recipe fails, don't just read the error. Pass the failure details from `list_recipe_jobs` to multiple debating agents. One agent focuses on latency; another focuses on root cause analysis of the process logic. The resulting consensus dictates whether you need to rewrite the workflow or simply adjust resource quotas.

Determine structural necessity.

Use `list_workato_folders` and `list_managed_connectors` as inputs for a multi-agent discussion. One agent reviews the organizational scope, while another checks which connectors are actually mapped to active recipes. The debate identifies unused resources or unnecessary folder structures, providing clear directives on where to clean up.

Setup guide

Set up Workato MCP in AutoGen

Prerequisites

  • Python 3.10+ installed
  • autogen-ext[mcp] package
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
  1. 1

    Install AutoGen with MCP

    Run pip install "autogen-ext[mcp]" autogen-agentchat. The MCP extension includes mcp_server_tools for stateless tool access.

  2. 2

    Fetch tools from the MCP

    Call mcp_server_tools(SseServerParams(url=...)) with your Vinkius endpoint. Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your token from cloud.vinkius.com.

  3. 3

    Run your agent

    Pass the tools to AssistantAgent and call agent.run(). The agent invokes Workato tools and returns structured results.

agent.py
from autogen_ext.tools.mcp import SseServerParams, mcp_server_tools
from autogen_agentchat.agents import AssistantAgent
from autogen_ext.models.openai import OpenAIChatCompletionClient

server_params = SseServerParams(
    url="https://edge.vinkius.com/[YOUR_TOKEN_HERE]/mcp"
)

tools = await mcp_server_tools(server_params)

agent = AssistantAgent(
    name="Workato_assistant",
    model_client=OpenAIChatCompletionClient(model="gpt-4o"),
    tools=tools,
)

result = await agent.run("List recent Workato data")
print(result.messages[-1].content)

Common questions about Workato MCP in AutoGen

Instead of simple alerts, AutoGen allows agents to discuss the alert. For instance, one agent reports a job failure via `list_recipe_jobs`, and another immediately checks if that recipe's dependencies (from `get_recipe_details`) were also impacted.
Yes. The system can debate the necessity of specific connections found via `list_app_connections`, forcing a consensus on whether the access point is critical or merely legacy bloat.
Give competing perspectives to your agents. For example, pit a 'Cost Reduction' agent against an 'Operational Stability' agent, using recipe details as evidence for their debate.
It works great. The structured output from listing recipes and jobs provides the raw data needed for agents to challenge each other's assumptions and build a consensus decision.
This server handles operational metadata: folder names, managed connector lists, connection credentials (by ID), recipe configurations, and detailed job execution logs for the Workato platform.
