Track Automation Health

You can check all your active workflows by calling `list_automation_recipes`. This lets your agent know exactly what recipes you've set up. It also keeps tabs on which apps are connected across the platform using `list_app_connections`. When troubleshooting, agents use `list_recipe_jobs` to pull recent execution logs for a specific recipe. This gives immediate visibility into job status and failure points.

Audit Workato Connections

The agent can map out your entire tech stack by running `list_managed_connectors`. It doesn't just list them; it shows which data sources are even available in your tenant. You also get a full picture of organizational structure with `list_workato_folders`. If you need to know what API collections Workato supports, the tool `get_api_collections` provides that catalog view.

Deep Recipe Inspection

Need details on a specific automation? The agent retrieves those specifics using `get_recipe_details`. This function pulls deep metadata about a single recipe, letting your specialized agents understand its intended scope. It’s crucial for building reliable deployment logic. Additionally, the tool `list_automation_recipes` lets you list all workflows, while `list_managed_connectors` keeps track of available enterprise services.

Setup guide

Set up Workato MCP in OpenAI Agents SDK

Prerequisites

  • Python 3.10+ installed
  • openai-agents package (pip install openai-agents)
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
  1. 1

    Install the SDK

    Run pip install openai-agents to install the OpenAI Agents SDK. The MCP integration is built-in — no extra dependencies needed.

  2. 2

    Connect via SSE transport

    Use MCPServerSse with your Vinkius endpoint URL. Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your token from cloud.vinkius.com. The SDK auto-discovers all Workato tools at runtime.

  3. 3

    Create your Agent

    Pass the MCP to Agent(mcp_servers=[server]). The agent receives Workato tools as native definitions — JSON schemas resolve automatically.

  4. 4

    Run the agent

    Call Runner.run(agent, prompt) to execute. The agent invokes the appropriate Workato tools and returns structured results. Copy the full example on the right to get started.

agent.py
import asyncio
from agents import Agent, Runner
from agents.mcp import MCPServerSse

async def main():
    async with MCPServerSse(
        url="https://edge.vinkius.com/[YOUR_TOKEN_HERE]/mcp"
    ) as server:
        agent = Agent(
            name="Workato Agent",
            instructions="You have access to Workato tools.",
            mcp_servers=[server],
        )
        result = await Runner.run(agent, "List recent transactions")
        print(result.final_output)

asyncio.run(main())

Common questions about Workato MCP in OpenAI Agents SDK

Your agent auto-discovers every tool exposed by the MCP Server, so you don't need to write any boilerplate code. It treats your Workato automation as just another API service that your specialized agents can interact with directly.
Absolutely. You can call `list_automation_recipes` to get a list, and then use `get_recipe_details` to dive deep into any single recipe's configuration or run history.
It exposes metadata about your applications and connections. Specifically, you can list all application credentials using `list_app_connections` and view available managed connectors via `list_managed_connectors`.
Yes. The system provides a tool to list all recipes (`list_automation_recipes`) and also lets you view job history for specific recipes using `list_recipe_jobs`.
The server handles application connection details. It exposes credentials and metadata related to your configured app connections, which is necessary for the agent to audit access rights across your environment.
