Check Organization Status

Need to confirm the basic details of a WorkOS account? Running `get_organization_details` provides immediate metadata. Your agent can then use this data directly in code logic, like setting up environment variables. It's perfect for writing scripts that need to know which organization they are operating within before making API calls.

List All Sync Targets

Start by listing all available directory sync instances using `list_directories`. This populates your code with a list of all potential sources for user data. You can then iterate through this array to build out testing scripts. After that, you can narrow it down and use `list_directory_users` or `list_directory_groups` on specific sync targets.

Manage User Roster Data

When building user management features, the tool handles this. Call `list_directory_users` to get a complete list of synced users. Your agent can then parse out usernames and employee IDs directly into your function. If you only need group membership, run `list_directory_groups`; it returns structured data ready for use in conditional statements.

Setup guide

Set up WorkOS MCP in Cursor

Prerequisites

  • Cursor installed (macOS, Windows, or Linux)
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
  1. 1

    Open MCP Settings

Go to Cursor Settings → MCP or open the Command Palette (Cmd+Shift+P / Ctrl+Shift+P) and search for "MCP: Add Server".

  2. 2

    Add the WorkOS MCP

Cursor will create or open .cursor/mcp.json in your project root. Paste the JSON snippet on the right. Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your endpoint token from cloud.vinkius.com.

  3. 3

    Enable Agent mode

Open Composer (Cmd+I / Ctrl+I) and switch to Agent mode using the dropdown at the top. MCP tools are only available in Agent mode.

  4. 4

    Verify the connection

Ask Cursor something like "List my recent WorkOS transactions." If the MCP tools are loaded correctly, Cursor will call the WorkOS tools automatically. You can also check Settings → MCP for a green status indicator.

Common questions about WorkOS MCP in Cursor

First, list all organizations with `list_workos_organizations` to scope your project. Then, use the directory tools like `list_directory_users`. The AI agent can read these live results and generate working code based on them.
You must first use `list_directories` to confirm the sync source. After that, call `list_directory_groups` and pass the relevant directory ID to get the exact roster you're looking for.
Yes. Use `get_sso_connection_details`. This function pulls the required authentication parameters, allowing your code to build secure connection handlers without hardcoding credentials.
You can get a stream of historical events using `get_audit_log_events`. This lets your agent write logging functions that track actions performed on the organization, which is critical for debugging.
This server touches directory and user records. When generating code, always validate that you are only requesting the minimum necessary fields from `list_directory_users` or `list_directory_groups`.
