Key Capabilities

Manage Fulfillment via MCP Server

Use `list_shipments` to pull a manifest of all recently generated labels for tracking review. You can also call `mark_as_shipped`, which changes the order status directly in ShipStation. This tool makes it simple for your whole team to see exactly where an order is in the fulfillment process.

Review Order Data with Copilot

Need details on a specific shipment? The `get_order` tool retrieves all necessary data points, like tracking numbers and customer names. You can then use `add_tag_to_order` to flag it for follow-up. This keeps the entire team aligned on which orders require special attention.

Setup Webhooks for Copilot

For enterprise reliability, use `subscribe_webhook`. This registers a webhook endpoint that lets ShipStation push immediate updates to your repo's infrastructure. You can also call `list_webhooks` to audit existing connections. This is key for making sure your CI/CD pipeline gets notified the second an order ships.

Setup guide

Set up ShipStation MCP in VS Code Copilot

Prerequisites

  • VS Code 1.99 or later with GitHub Copilot extension
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
  1. 1

    Open MCP configuration

Open the Command Palette (Cmd+Shift+P / Ctrl+Shift+P) and run "MCP: Add Server". Select HTTP (Streamable) as the server type. VS Code will create .vscode/mcp.json in your workspace.

  2. 2

    Add the ShipStation MCP

Paste the JSON snippet shown on the right into your .vscode/mcp.json. Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your endpoint token from cloud.vinkius.com.

  3. 3

    Switch to Agent mode

Open Copilot Chat (Cmd+Shift+I / Ctrl+Shift+I) and switch to Agent mode using the dropdown. MCP tools are only available in Agent mode — they do not appear in Edit or Ask modes.

  4. 4

    Verify the connection

In the Copilot Chat input, type # to list available tools. You should see the ShipStation tools listed. Try asking: "List my recent ShipStation transactions" and Copilot will invoke them automatically.

Common questions about ShipStation MCP in VS Code Copilot

You run `create_label_for_order` by passing it the necessary order details. The resulting data is immediately available in your code, allowing you to proceed with updating inventory records right away.
The `get_rates` tool lets you compare costs live. You can write logic that automatically selects the carrier based on criteria like 'lowest cost' or 'fastest delivery time'.
The server handles order IDs, customer addresses, and package dimensions. It uses this information to generate labels and modify the status of orders.
Absolutely. By calling `add_tag_to_order`, you can flag an order for accounting, returns processing, or manual inspection without touching the UI.
If funds are low, call `add_funds` to top up a specific carrier account. You can also use `get_carrier` first just to verify the current balance.
