Key Capabilities

Execute Auditing SQL Statements

Need to audit a large data warehouse? Run any query straight from your shell by calling `execute_sql`. The output is piped directly, or you get a handle if the job takes time. This lets you validate complex transformation logic against Snowflake. You can also use `cancel_sql` if a statement runs too long and starts blocking other processes in your CI/CD pipeline.

Monitor Job Status Headlessly

When running batch jobs, you need confirmation they finished. Use `get_statement_status` to check the live status of a SQL statement without needing a GUI. This is essential for scripts and cron jobs. Pairing this with `get_session_context` ensures your script knows exactly which credentials it's running under before firing off any data changes.

Inventory Compute Resources

To write reliable deployment scripts, you must know the environment. Run `list_warehouses` to see all available compute resources for your Snowflake account. This prevents your automation from failing because a cluster isn't running. You can also use `list_users` and `list_roles` to bake security checks directly into your shell scripts, enforcing proper access control.

Setup guide

Set up Snowflake MCP in Claude Code

Prerequisites

  • Claude Code CLI installed (npm install -g @anthropic-ai/claude-code)
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
  1. 1

    Run the add command

Open your terminal and run the command shown on the right. Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your endpoint token from cloud.vinkius.com. Use --scope user to make it available across all projects.

  2. 2

    Verify the connection

Start a Claude Code session and type /mcp to list connected servers. You should see snowflake-alternative-mcp with a green status indicator.

  3. 3

    Start using tools

Ask Claude Code something like "Check my latest Snowflake transactions." It will automatically discover and invoke the available Snowflake tools.

Terminal
claude mcp add --transport http snowflake-alternative-mcp https://edge.vinkius.com/[YOUR_TOKEN_HERE]/mcp

Common questions about Snowflake MCP in Claude Code

Start by listing databases with `list_databases`. Then loop through schemas and tables. You can use the MCP Server's tools to systematically inspect every required component before executing any changes.
Use `get_statement_status` to check why the job failed. If you suspect a syntax error or permission issue, use `list_roles` to verify that your service account has the necessary permissions.
The server provides full visibility into user accounts by calling `list_users`. This is useful for scripting offboarding processes or generating access reports in your DevOps pipeline.
Yes. First, run `list_schemas` to see the structure within a database, then use `list_tables` to get every table name. This is perfect for generating manifest files in your build process.
The server exposes metadata including user names, role definitions, database schemas, and the computed status of running SQL statements. You're working with system context and structure.
