Key Capabilities

Batch process journey itineraries

Need to run a massive report? Write a shell script that iterates through hundreds of postcodes. For each, the agent calls `get_transport_by_postcode` and then executes `plan_public_transport_journey`, piping the full itinerary data into a CSV file for analysis.

Monitor train service uptime

Set up a cron job that runs every hour. This script checks critical services by calling `get_train_service_details` and outputs a clear status code to stdout if the calling pattern deviates from expected standards.

Schedule timetable dumps

Use Claude Code in a CI/CD pipeline to pull scheduled data for multiple stations nightly. You can loop through station codes, executing `get_train_station_timetable` and dumping the raw XML output into version control for historical auditing.

Setup guide

Set up TransportAPI MCP in Claude Code

Prerequisites

  • Claude Code CLI installed (npm install -g @anthropic-ai/claude-code)
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
  1. 1

    Run the add command

Open your terminal and run the command shown on the right. Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your endpoint token from cloud.vinkius.com. Use --scope user to make it available across all projects.

  2. 2

    Verify the connection

Start a Claude Code session and type /mcp to list connected servers. You should see transportapi-alternative-mcp with a green status indicator.

  3. 3

    Start using tools

Ask Claude Code something like "Check my latest TransportAPI transactions." It will automatically discover and invoke the available TransportAPI tools.

Terminal
claude mcp add --transport http transportapi-alternative-mcp https://edge.vinkius.com/[YOUR_TOKEN_HERE]/mcp

Common questions about TransportAPI MCP in Claude Code

You write a headless script that loops through your inputs. For every pair, the agent runs `plan_public_transport_journey` and outputs the result directly to standard output, perfect for logging in an action.
Yes. While running headless, you can poll the API endpoint that calls `get_live_bus_departures` and pipe the resulting JSON into another script for immediate processing or alerting.
It supports multiple inputs: raw postcodes via `get_transport_by_postcode`, location names, and specific coordinates. Your script can adapt to any of these.
Absolutely. The toolset is designed for batch data retrieval—fetching fares via `get_train_fares` or schedules via `get_bus_route_timetable` in non-interactive, scripted ways.
This server primarily deals with public transit schedules, real-time departure times, and location identifiers (GPS coordinates, postcodes). It doesn't handle personal user account credentials.
