Key Capabilities

Plan a journey from start to finish

Tell it two points, and Windsurf figures out the whole trip. It calls `plan_public_transport_journey` to get step-by-step directions, then uses `get_train_fares` to compare ticket costs. The agent handles all the sequencing so you just set the goal.

Aggregate real-time transit status

Need a bird's-eye view of departures? Windsurf can grab live data from multiple sources in one go. You can check `get_live_bus_departures` for buses or get immediate updates using `get_live_train_departures` for trains, then combine the results into one readable output.

Find schedules when you're lost

Don’t have coordinates? No problem. Windsurf uses location data to find nearby services first. It can run `get_nearby_bus_stops` near a GPS point, then use that result to grab the schedule with `get_bus_route_timetable`. The MCP Server makes this whole process feel like one command.

Setup guide

Set up TransportAPI MCP in Windsurf

Prerequisites

  • Windsurf IDE installed (macOS, Windows, or Linux)
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
  1. 1

    Open MCP configuration

Click the Cascade assistant icon in the sidebar, then click the hammer icon (🔨) at the top of the panel. Select "Configure" to open ~/.codeium/windsurf/mcp_config.json.

  2. 2

    Add the TransportAPI MCP

Paste the JSON snippet shown on the right into the mcpServers object. Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your endpoint token from cloud.vinkius.com.

  3. 3

    Refresh MCPs

Go back to the hammer icon (🔨) in Cascade and click "Refresh". Windsurf will detect the new server. No full restart is needed — the connection is hot-reloaded.

  4. 4

    Verify in Cascade

Start a new Cascade conversation and ask something like "Show my TransportAPI payment history." If connected, Cascade will call the TransportAPI tools directly. You will see a green dot next to the server name in the MCP panel.

Common questions about TransportAPI MCP in Windsurf

Windsurf doesn't need you to prompt for each step. You set the goal—say, 'Find cheapest travel from Manchester to London.' The agent calls `plan_public_transport_journey` and then cross-references it with `get_train_fares` automatically.
Yes. You can get real-time status updates by calling functions like `get_live_bus_departures`. This makes sure your agent always has the freshest departure times available.
It handles multiple inputs. You can use `get_transport_by_postcode` when a user only provides a UK postcode, or you can use `get_nearby_transport_places` if you have precise GPS coordinates.
Absolutely. The MCP Server lets you call `get_bus_route_timetable` or `get_train_station_timetable` to pull the full, pre-scheduled timetable for any given route or station.
This server primarily deals with public transit schedules, real-time departure times, and location identifiers (GPS coordinates, postcodes). It doesn't handle personal user account credentials.
