Search and Organize Your Notes

Your agent can find anything in Amplenote. It uses `search_notes` for keyword lookups and `list_notes` to get a full inventory. Once it has a note's ID, it pulls the full content with `get_note`. The OpenAI Agents SDK traces every one of these actions. You can see exactly which notes your agent accessed and why. This gives you a clear audit trail, which is critical for production systems that handle your knowledge base.

Manage Tasks with Guardrails

Let your agent handle your to-do list. It can add new items with `create_task` and see everything on your plate with `list_tasks`. When you make progress, the agent can mark tasks complete using `update_task`. The SDK's guardrails are key here. You can set up rules to prevent an agent from, say, deleting a high-priority task or creating duplicate entries. It validates the agent's plan *before* it touches your Amplenote data.

A Safe Amplenote MCP Server

Your agent can now draft and edit notes for you. Give it a topic, and it will use `create_note` to start a new document. It can also append information or fix typos in existing documents with `update_note`. Deleting notes with `delete_note` is a sensitive action. The OpenAI Agents SDK lets you require human confirmation for specific tool calls. This means your agent can propose a deletion, but you give the final approval, preventing any accidental data loss. This MCP Server gives you the tools, and the SDK provides the control.

Setup guide

Set up Amplenote MCP in OpenAI Agents SDK

Prerequisites

  • Python 3.10+ installed
  • openai-agents package (pip install openai-agents)
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
  1. 1

    Install the SDK

    Run pip install openai-agents to install the OpenAI Agents SDK. The MCP integration is built-in — no extra dependencies needed.

  2. 2

    Connect via SSE transport

    Use MCPServerSse with your Vinkius endpoint URL. Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your token from cloud.vinkius.com. The SDK auto-discovers all Amplenote tools at runtime.

  3. 3

    Create your Agent

    Pass the MCP to Agent(mcp_servers=[server]). The agent receives Amplenote tools as native definitions — JSON schemas resolve automatically.

  4. 4

    Run the agent

    Call Runner.run(agent, prompt) to execute. The agent invokes the appropriate Amplenote tools and returns structured results. Copy the full example on the right to get started.

agent.py
import asyncio
from agents import Agent, Runner
from agents.mcp import MCPServerSse

async def main():
    async with MCPServerSse(
        url="https://edge.vinkius.com/[YOUR_TOKEN_HERE]/mcp"
    ) as server:
        agent = Agent(
            name="Amplenote Agent",
            instructions="You have access to Amplenote tools.",
            mcp_servers=[server],
        )
        result = await Runner.run(agent, "List recent transactions")
        print(result.final_output)

asyncio.run(main())

Common questions about Amplenote MCP in OpenAI Agents SDK

Your agent uses the `search_notes` tool for keyword searches or `list_notes` to browse all notes. It then uses `get_note` to read the content of a specific note it finds. The SDK makes these tools available to your agent automatically.
Yes. The OpenAI Agents SDK includes guardrails and a confirmation system. You can configure it to require your explicit approval before the agent is allowed to execute the `delete_note` tool.
You'll `pip install openai-agents` and then instantiate the `MCPServerStreamableHttp` class with your Vinkius endpoint URL. Pass that server object into your Agent's constructor, and it will discover all the Amplenote tools.
Absolutely. The OpenAI Agents SDK is designed for handoffs between specialized agents. You could have one agent that's good at searching with `search_notes` and another that specializes in organizing tasks with `create_task` and `update_task`.
This server only interacts with your Amplenote note and task data. It doesn't see your account credentials. Vinkius secures the connection with an ephemeral token, and every operation runs in an isolated sandbox that's destroyed after the call.
